Many of the queries about trade test and test card music could probably be answered by joining the Test Card Circle. The database and quarterly magazine really get into the detail and there's a chance to get to know other collectors and expand your knowledge.

It's possible to have an pdf copy of the magazine and the database is also downloadable for members.

It's probably best not to mention the sharing of test tapes on here as the circle takes copyright very seriously.

I absolutely agree with what you say about the Test Card Circle and would encourage anyone who has an interest in test card music to consider joining.

I am however puzzled by your final sentence. The Hazel Crest compilation which I shared was downloaded from another thread on this forum. As far as I know it was a re-creation of the original playlist compiled by one of our forum members using tracks from various library albums and not an original tape. I don't understand how this would concern the TCC. Or are you suggesting otherwise?

It doesn't directly concern them. They have an archive of material and excellent relationships with many rights holders, something that has enabled the group to research and restore trade test and test card music and films.  It's likely that people will compile their own recreations of the tape running orders and I'm guessing that the groups'  concern is people publicly sharing material directly acquired from the circle's  archive.

I disagree with many aspects of copyright restrictions however, as we know from the many versions of this forum it's something that can cause problems.

It’s a +1 from me to be a member of the TCC.  I’m sat here reading the latest quarterly magazine. In regards this compilation, I know John worked hard to source the tracks to complete it the best he can in lossless and shared this once he completed it.  I have a copy of this and it wasn’t from TCC so nobody there would be upset at this.  Many of their recordings they have within the group are off-air recordings.  With help of the cue sheets, many have tried to source the music used and grab the albums they feature on. The major obstacle is the deliberate falsifying of who the composer or artist is and often change the track title. I’m still not sure why they felt the need to do this as back years ago, sourcing the albums was harder than it is today.

Phew! I was beginning to wonder where this was going redwave. I fully understand and respect the TCC's desire to protect the copyright of the material they have been charged with. Without it they would just be a Circle! Personally I keep my TCC membership totally separate from my involvement on this forum. So any test card compilations I share are either from those recreated by members on LMT or by using playlists I have come across on this forum or the likes of YouTube but not from TCC resources. I expect other members do likewise.

Responding to everything here:
Financial situations atm are tough, and not conducive to a quarterly (is it quarterly or annually, I can't remember) TCC subscription. Besides that (and the fact that I do not have a CD player, to catch up on the hundred-odd issues I missed), I'm pretty sure I'm the only non-UK born who cares enough about these tapes to do all this research, so there's that to start.
