Title: Musrc is down

Welp
I’m not sure really what to say about it but Retromatic’s website, Musrc now has an expired domain and he has not renewed it
Which is really quite strange, because sometimes I see he updates his site and the last update was a few days ago. So it’s not like he abandoned the site. Maybe he will renew the domain, and perhaps he’s working on it now, but the site has become worthless anyway.
I don’t want a huge controversial debate on this thread, I’m just letting everyone know this :)

I saw that too.

Sad news, didn't you hear the news? It means that Retromatic gave up paying for renewing the domain! But I'm not sure. Has he been into financial trouble, or something even worse? 🤔

Also, I'm not sure if this website was shutted down temporarily, or worse, Retromatic shutted down his personal website permanently. Any idea why? Please let me know because I had no idea why! 😅

I think it just started the other day, so perhaps he just forgot about the expiration and is working on it now. Or maybe he's had enough of the website, and doesn't want to bother renewing the domain.
It frustrates me because there was a lot of stuff on there I could've loved to have.

Yeah, me too! But I am not so sure if he decided that he had enough with his website that was driving him crazy, and can't forget the drama he has been going through, or if he does something like normal like nothing bad ever happened, but forgot about the expiration and decided to work on it now to renew it. But yeah, I agree! I really really wanted those albums that I've been looking forward to get my hands on.

The guy hasn't been on here or posted for some time.  Maybe something has happened in his life that has taken him away from the passion he once had.  Just leave him be.  If he returns, he returns.  If he doesn't remember him for what he did and what he provided for the community.  Remember you are posting on LMT which has nothing to do with what he does on a personal level.  He hasn't promoted his website for some time and presumably has come to an end.

From a personal level, my love for library has waned slightly. Now, that doesn't mean I'm done with it, but things happen in life.  I suspect things will pick up for me later in the year.  With my life in motorsport, it's chaos at the moment and things won't die down until the end of the year so my active days here on LMT are more in the winter but I still look on this place with great fondness even in the summer months where it's a few mins a week.

The other thing to bear in mind is personal finances.  Running a website, purchasing vinyl or cd's has become over the last 20 years or so incredibly expensive.  A certain auction site I frequented has been over-run by those that want maximum £££ or $$$ etc.  Times are hard and people move on.  I'm incredibly fortunate to have been in there early and provided a ton of my personal music or those that upgraded my tiresome MP3's to FLAC when hard drive space became cheaper but lets not forget that all of this takes time an money.  Again, Retromatic may not be in a good place financially.   I personally haven't been in touch with him for months, so I'd say leave him be.  IF he posts here on LMT and says he's financially in a spot of bother and requests help with a 'fund me' page or similar, those interested will support him.  If not, his shares will become a thing of the past.  What's important here is again, remember him for what he gave up his time and hard earnt money for.

Take care all !

Thank you Tony. I agree totally with your sentiment.

I must admit I did heave a sigh of despair at seeing this topic start up. I think it is in poor taste to be discussing a forum member in this way. Can we please now stop discussing Retromatic and his website. It's becoming very boring.

Agreed.  Think admin need to close this and for all to move on...

Ok, I apologize for making this post.
But I think it may be a good thing the website is gone now and possibly forever; it will stop temptations of wanting things we cannot get.
For example, the other day I went on Musrc to see what sound bank CDs Retromatic has, but now that I can't check again, it will help me appreciate the things I have, and maybe I'll forget about him like he all seems us to want to do.

Yep, I've been wanting the albums I've listed for a couple of weeks now, but it's a good thing that I have some albums I got my hands on. Hopefully the website might come back or possibly not, but we'll see, someday or possibly never.

I am forever indebted to Retromatic for sharing the rip of the albums I've been wanting for so long. Thanks, Retromatic, for the rips you've shared to us for the past few months. May you come back sooner or later sometimes. And I am so sorry for spamming you. Maybe I'll forget about him for a while or so, but we'll see. Only time will tell, I hope. :)

I, too, regret that the website has been shut down,

Since I check it from time to time,

In my opinion, Musrc’s biggest feature is that it includes some extremely rare “Music Library” tracks.

However, you can't listen to these companies' music through some online distributors; you have to buy the CDs to hear it.

So, to me, they seem very scarce and rare, and they spark my curiosity.

Nowadays, many long-established “Music Library” labels have even released their albums on streaming platforms, making it easier for us to listen to them and allowing them to be easily recognized by apps.

But to me, it lacks a touch of mystery.

In the past, I thought that “Music Library” tracks weren’t included on streaming platforms and weren’t easily recognized by apps, so I found them mysterious and interesting.

So the closure of Musrc has caused us to lose a lot of rare “Music Library” tracks.

Although I know quite a few people who have collected large numbers of “Music Library CDs,”

many of the CDs in their collections are from internationally renowned companies, and we can easily listen to them on other websites,

The only exception is that many of the CDs in “Musrc” can’t be previewed online through the website. They’re quite rare, and I think they’ve reignited my passion for researching “Music Library.” We have some music whose origin we don’t yet know—maybe it’s on one of those rare CDs from Musrc, but we just can’t identify it. We’ll only be able to confirm it once we listen to it ourselves, haha.

But I’d like to digress for a moment.

Around this time last year, I donated $70 to Retro Matic and asked him to rip some albums from the “Flying Hands Production Music Library” for me. He agreed, but nearly a year has passed, and I haven’t received the ripped files or heard back from him.

Isn’t this a bit unreasonable? If he really doesn’t have time to respond, he should refund the $70 to me.

All that you said, I can understand and agree with.
But if you don't mind, Chun and Yohanes, I know people here don't like this conversation to continue, nor any conversations about Retromatic, so I say we should just stop here. I hope you'll understand.

First I thought it was a copyright takedown.
Then the wording of the message was odd. "If you want to know why your site is not working" is a strange thing.
But if you mouse-over the link, it says "pastoverduesplash", the page's info page for, well, being over due.. So yes, he has not paid for the domain.

I think something has happened to him personally, and it might be something serious. His library, the webpage frequently updated, everything tagged and many albums listed but not yet tagged - you don't just throw that away. I chatted a lot with him via eMail, donating a triple-digit amount and received rarities that I really enjoy (especially the TM selections and those T-series! Great late-80s stuff!) and he was very reasonable. That some people here got irritatingly angry for him not giving away things and calling him "not in the spirit of LMT" after sharing literal triple-digit numbers of pristine CD rips was something I'd also cut the ropes. The funny thing is that many people might not share everything simply by not responding. I know a few people from older posts still active not responding to requests but actively posting elsewhere. Is that in the "spirit of LMT" or just certain people behaving less mature then they ought to be? Knowing someone has an album and not responding is now better while knowing someone has it and not sharing by going silent is almost the same quality but perceived much better. I think that is at least hypocritical.

In the end, musrc contributed a big junk of post-90s albums. I think it was even him who forced the admins to add that section, because when I joined in 2022 (as a lurker and registered mainly for the access to his profile for the password) there was no dividie between <90s and >90s. Musrc is thus a part of LMT and while I also think we should let this case rest, just declaring him a person non grata is yet again a rather spiteful act.

I am listening about 90% of my music to my library tracks. Since the 90s I wanted those tracks often played in the background of documentaries and such. Now, I have it. Something I thought never would be possible. Thanks retromatic, thanks LMT, thanks especially to ChunYinZi. You all rock and I am absolutely grateful.

Ah. Thanks, Psyclon. I totally agree with what you said. And yes! I really liked the TM selections and those T-series of Trendsetter II (which is what I've been wanting for so long now). And I really, really hope someone might happen  to have one and willing to share one. (sorry if I said that). :)

The issue is that I collect only on a track basis and thus discarded the albums afterwards after I took what I wanted.
To be fair, I did not expect that I'd still use my LMT key and enter this place again and the admins have not changed the lock :D
But after albums after albums of great quality, the new recording sessions of even cleaner ATMOS LPs, the NRE megashare with Gianni Sposito's fantastic work or the KOKA "Minimal 2" album was too much to not say thanks.

If I'd known that Retromatic shuts down his site (or let it be shut dowen) I'd could have shared it as he kind of forfeit his own avenue of distributing them.
To be fair, I think he might not be amongst us anymore. As said, he had plans, he had albums to come. You don't do that - dropping your collection and literally hundreds of hours of work. Especially since the lease of domains are often for 12 months in advance, so I actually am afraid the worst happened to him. And if ChunYinZi said he donated and had not heard for 7 months... I think we can add 1 and 1 together here... The latest respond time to a donation would be 3 weeks at one point but he explained himself.

At least he kept a well organized database of his findings.

It's still possible to view it entirely via the HTML version of the site at the Wayback Machine:

That's called a scam. That lines up with my opinion of this man 100%. Selling rips in the first place was a scam, now actual money being taken and items not delivered. I've always thought this man was a crook. I was absent for his glory days I suppose, but viewing his activity in hindsight I have no idea why people here talk about him the way they do. Praising this man as if he were a deity. This is a robbery, no exaggeration at all, and somehow no one realizes this.

If I order a product online for delivery as I often do and it doesn't ship within 2 or 3 weeks, I call my bank up and demand a chargeback. Any reasonable person would have long before a full year has passed.

Maybe you dial your accusations back a bit. As you said yourself, you missed the times when a Retromatic post would mean dozens of GBytes of FLAC rips ready to use of whole libraries that you can't just drive-by download from APM or Universal. Going through xx albums would take me several days and all of that was freely available. Funny though, many here (or outside) downloaded them as you can see from all the page views of his threads but nobody shares back. Selfish, huh?

His website being down in the middle of his project is, as said in the previous page, a red flag about his well-being.

He bought these CDs and this can be expensive. Not everyone downloads digital albums with a free account. As much as I am grateful as I am not interested in physical media, there is a difference of rare, physical media being paid, shipped, sorted, tagged, scanned and distributed vs. "Here, I use my KPM login and give you a WAV folder within 3 minutes of work".

I, for myself, got everything I "paid" (donated) for in a timely manner. He even asked me the amount of albums (instead of a fixed price). So he was not greedy. He was not greedy at all, as said, he donated triple-digits of these albums. It's a bit FOMO, but as said before, much stuff here is FOMO and certain users don't respond to requests despite, if you Google LMT, these users don't share them anymore despite happily posting around. That is worse, because at least musrc was open to eventually share them for a small tip.

Maybe you dial your accusations back a bit.

A user above documented how RetroMatic took his 70 dollars and promised a product he didn't deliver.

I am not dialing anything back at all, that is a criminal act. I see it a lot in other areas of the internet. That's the very definition of a scam.

(https://i.ibb.co/YF1Y6xGk/Capture.png) (https://ibb.co/ZpFt30C8)

It's like Stockholm Syndrome trying to talk about this around here, seriously.

If it turns out he is deceased or gravely ill/hospitalized, I will eat all the crow I need to. but that's the only thing that excuses behavior like this.

I had wanted to stay out of this but I'm done biting my tongue:

I've been friends/worked with RetroMatic for years, and he has always been one to be helpful and share what he had. For years he's ran Musrc where you could basically download whatever you wanted for free, and he would post most of his stuff here as well.

I said this elsewhere, but here's what's really the issue with people complaining summed up: "I'm mad that the person whose spent thousands of dollars and countless hours collecting stuff & building a site from scratch sharing it for the longest time that I was getting instantly for free without any work on my part isn't doing that anymore". Here's a fun thing, ask these people who are complaining how much they've donated to him over the years for all the content he's shared or how recent. You'll get crickets or 'well I did a little once'. Right.

The entitlement and lack of appreciation is sickening. No one knows what's going on with him, but will instantly turn on him when they aren't getting what they want. And there's a difference of having had contact with Retro and made an agreement for something, and 'donating' money on the site without any prior contact with Retro knowing he's been missing but with the expectation to be given access to everything- which the later is what likely what people are doing.

If I was him and going through things and see crap like this, why the hell I would I want to even deal with it anymore. I know he's been dealing with something for at least since fall of last year where I even haven't even had proper contact with him since, and last I heard things aren't good. I actually give a crap about this person and his well being. Most of you could care less, you just want your precious music. Total lack of decency and humanity.

I'm luckily not one of those guys who thinks that way. Despite me not donating as much as I should've, I still believed in his mission of preserving CDs for the future, even though I didn't really care about that until all the drama that happened a few years back. I kept trying to learn from that mistake (with the occasional free request email here and there, which made him [and myself] think I was still a spammer), but that was when I didn't have any of the money to help him out with. I've fully learned from that mistake now, thankfully!

I hope I'm not being seen as one of those people who disrespect him.
I've never spoken to him, and never bought something off of him.
But the CDs I have gotten from Retromatic; from friends who decided to share them with me, the CDs have been a huge staple in my collection: Sound Maker, Full Spectrum, and Studio Cutz.
I believe he was the first person here to fully have the entire original Studio Cutz set!
And everyday when I listen to those songs, I realize how thankful I am for him.
Even if he's not here with us right now and practically gone from the Internet, I know he's still alive somewhere and I'm glad he was able to share these albums with us when he did. Sure, maybe there have been some mishaps with money and stuff that never got over to the other person but he was willing to share huge collections of rare music with us when he did.
So I still hope he is ok, wherever he may be and I hope he won't forget this hobby of his. And I believe, one day he will come back here. I just hope he doesn't find this place hating on him when he shows up.

I dunno, but I just always saw those whenever I visit this website a lot. 🤓

Anyway, now that his website is back, I think it's safe to say that it is time for us to move on from this topic, and continue with whatever we're doing. For now.

Hope his website still growing strong to this day. :)
