Doctor Who - The Space Museum - Complete OST

Here's a little thing I originally posted on FFShrine about a thousand years ago. Every track's been polished and improved - it's a big upgrade and I think it's a lovely listen. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible - BlackwatchPlaid, Retronic, a8detective, Easy Listening Archive, GinjaNinja, gnawingagony and Jimmy Rich.

Often when I post something like this, somewhere down the line, months or years later, someone identifies a missing cue and a revised upload becomes necessary. This one's a record though, as the correction came through at 6am this morning!

Track 30 - "FX: Armoury Computer and Unknown Cue" - the unknown part is Eric Siday's Space Time once again. I had thought it was, I'd even checked it a few days ago, but couldn't get it to match. Turns out it's the 78 disc playing at 33rpm rather than 45rpm, which is what's used the rest of the time. Thanks to my old colleague gnawingagony for spotting it.

Here's a revised track 30 (just delete the previous one) along with a couple of new bonus tracks:

(Apologies for faffing around with passwords, but they do seem to foil Mediafire's copyright detectors.)

I had to write and say thank you for your SPACE MUSEUM album assembly! I share your enthusiasm for the 1960s Dr Who library scores, and long ago cobbled together some albums for my own home listening purposes, including a SPACE MUSEUM album I thought fairly comprehensive. I stand corrected. Yours has everything that mine was missing, plus a wealth of data on the original album sources, much of which I was never able to pin down myself. I am deeply grateful for your work here, and feel a sense of complete satisfaction with the album you've compiled. More than any other of the several Dr WHO serials scored with library selections, SPACE MUSEUM boasts a diverse panoply of musique concrete, music for tape, early electronic and avant-garde orchestra that bewilders the senses.

Thanks Max, that's very kind of you.

I started assembling these about 12 years ago after I found the "PasB" paperwork was online:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/pasb/

There are always tracks missing, and errors (right disc, wrong title; right disc, wrong side; and in extreme cases the wrong disc altogether) but they were helpful as an initial guide. And two of the tracks wouldn't have been found if it wasn't for "gnawingagony" from Final Fantasy Shrine, who had an incredible ability for spotting things playing at the wrong speed. He was also the first person to suggest that the final cue might be Les Structures Sonores (though I will take credit for finding the right one!)

I really don't know why properly remastered Dr Who library soundtracks aren't available on CD. Since my original attempts in 2013 a lot of the tracks have been made available by the copyright holders so it couldn't be that much of a faff.

Anyway, I did do compilations for all the other obvious 60s stories, all of which could do with a polish. Must get them online at some point.

Also: I think you subscribed to my YouTube channel recently - thanks! It's a bit of an odd mix of stuff but if you like Dr Who and obscure library music you should be ok!

You might like this - not one I'm planning on updating - here's my old Ambassadors of Death compilation:

I only just realised you're Funky1&2 :D Yes! I found your channel just a few weeks back while on a hunt to expand my collection of QUATERMASS music and music info. Amazed to find how much of Trevor Duncan's work has resurfaced in recent years. Last time I went on a 'Quater-quest' was 2008, and I could scarcely find more than the Challenge Of Space suite, Inhumanity and the opening from Mutations (but none of the rest of it). Today the entire Paroxysm group can be found on compact disk! My collection grew enormously in a matter of days, but there are still many gaps to plug. I assume the PasB documents for the three TV serials are lost?

I was very excited to hear your AMBASSADORS OF DEATH collection. Excellent and thorough. I listened to it twice this afternoon and added the whole folder into my Dr Who collection. And I love the titles you went with ("A Deadly Shade Of Dudley" is a particular favourite, but Twangly is also good!)

In the spirit of reciprocity, you may enjoy aspects of my AMBASSADORS mini album, a home hobby project I knocked up around 2013. I think you would be the first person ever to hear it! Like yours, the source for all music is the episode's final mix soundtrack, so I have selected the most extractable music only, and intercut it with short bursts of the best onscreen dialogue, hypnotically lengthy radiophonic ambiences and raw, siren-laden battle-scapes, hoping to present the full range of audio 'flavours' that made up a classic serial of this nature. And I'm as drawn to the sounds of chaos as I am to the muse of harmony. I imagine this collection as the 'B side" to an album I would call DUDLEY SIMPSON'S SEASON SEVEN, with a similar collection of SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE forming the 'A side'.
