C Music Professional Library Standard Series (SL)
« on: January 29, 2023, 03:21:10 PM »

As the title suggests

CMUSIC comes from Japan and is a famous Japanese library music company formerly known as Roland Music Library.

Most people are familiar with CMUSIC's AL series of albums, but ignore the SL Standard Series (SL), which is a series of albums with a relatively small amount of music, ranging from 4 to 7 songs, and only a single full version, with no other versions.

It was hard to get these resources, and it took me a lot of time and money, and Japan is very strict about copyright, and a lot of music is not licensed, so it was not easy to get these albums.

I will compile some albums from the AL series when I have the chance.

Because the albums are all in Japanese, I've translated the albums I have for your reference only.

Tips:Since this is a library from Japan, the album title and the music title are in Japanese, so I have translated them into English for your understanding.

There are currently 69 albums in the series, and I own 54 of them.

Enjoy!

Before I dive deeper into this - do you know when these were released? I only know CMUSIC has been founded in December 1990, but that's it. The music so far sounds great, but I am stuck with the missing years.

Unfortunately, I can't answer this question exactly
Because the official website of cmusic doesn't specify the time of their albums, not even the composer, only the name of the music and the name of the album, but no special information other than that

When cmusic was Roland, there was a release date, but I can't find it anymore.

As for the quality of these albums, yes, they are quite good, and you can deduce their style from their titles.

Among them, there is a lot of Asian music and some new electronic music

After all, Japanese music is very good in Asia.

Yes, and that's why it's such a bummer. I got magically attracted to the J-POP album and it sounded great.
Many MegaDrive, NES and MasterSystem games are essential J-Pop (as their composers are from Japan and these consoles are 80s)
and thus it kinda hits my interest.

I am fine with no composer (Canary Productions and E.S.L. also have none), but the year is essential..

Here's C Music's announcement that they have acquired the business from Roland on 1 July 2017 hXXps://www.cmusic.co.jp/news_170701.html

Does anyone have a url for a website for the old Roland Music Library? I fancy having a look in the wayback machine

Surprisingly the audio preview links still work if you take the url and open it outside the wayback machine.

thanks! I see that the roland.mu site contains a news item that the url would be changed to roland.mu on 2 September 2013, I wonder what it was before.

Unfortunately, no release date here either.
I also like that they provided the music on CD-Rs and there is a notice stating that it's normal they receive only self-made CDs.
Of course, they would not press CDs and rather burn them, but still, it lacks a bit professionalism.

Still, if anyone can shed light on the release date of them, I would be very glad. Because right now, the missing release date prevents me from checking them out.
It's a hard requirement for me to have the year.

Looks like it used to be under Roland's AtelierVision brand https://web.archive.org/web/20130306033343/http://www.ateliervision.jp/professional/index.html

Good work, thank you! That's where the trail seems to end, with the earliest capture being in 2012 and no suggestion of a prior website, although there's something about  "Notice of change of operating company" dated 28 December 2011.

After doing some more digging I found an earlier site: https://web.archive.org/web/20040101000000*/http://www.roland.co.jp:80/products/dtm/Library.html. Still no info about release dates for the SL series or any other.

I think I've found something:

May 2008, the SL series seems absent https://web.archive.org/web/20080513211414/http://www.ateliervision.co.jp:80/professional/index.html
June 2008, the SL series seems present https://web.archive.org/web/20080628203801/http://www.ateliervision.co.jp:80/professional/index.html - also the first item under "New Release" on that page refers to the new BGM Standard series

Hey ChunYinZi, this is fantastic. I'm afflicted with a Japan obsession these days ... I've often wondered where Japanese library music is hiding. So, very much looking forward to checking these out. Thanks a million for your generosity!

I think the tracks in the SL series sound like they could the much older. Maybe it was their intention to create that type of sound. Another possibility is that the tracks are recycled from an older source.
