Illustra-Son
« on: February 13, 2018, 10:28:12 AM »
Has anyone seen any other Illustra-Son LPs than the ones listed on Discogs?

I'm especially interested in the series IS 860 9XX, with the pixelated cover arts.

I'm curious, because I'm pretty sure that I once saw a bunch of these in a record shop in Paris, much before I was interested in the label. I had just started getting into library and was mainly interested in Crea Sound, so I was a bit disappointed to find mostly Orlys and Illustra-Sons in that shop. But the Illustra-Son covers I found very attractive. Didn't buy any, and I regret now. Later I got into the wonderful Quiet Times LP, and checked the label, and started to drool back in time. I don't find much information on the label outside of Discogs.

PS. If anyone has a rip of the Secrets LP (IS 860 912), that would be well appreciated! All the other missing Illustra-Sons would be great too. If anyone needs I can provide rips of PRD 820 801, PRD 820 802, PRD 820 803, IS 870 617, 840 307, 840 408 and DBL 851 010.

I don't know much about this label, but I have rips of IS 860912, IS 860913, IS 880620. Which of these would you like me to upload?
The PRD ones, look interesting to me.

This is another one of those inherently confusing 'multiple labels that are part of the same catalogue' things. From what I can tell, both Records PRD ('productions Régis Delaye'?), Discobole and Illustra-Son are essentially the same label, all produced by Régis Delaye ("Bernard Lamastre"). I don't think there were any other "Alexandre Kush" LPs, but Michel "Misha" Lobko has some LPs under his real name. Never heard any of them, though.

However, I can help with some info!
I'm fairly certain the first four digits of the catalogue number indicates production/release year and month, and the last its number in the overall catalogue
 - e.g. IS 860 912 means "Illustra-Son, September 1986, release #12". As such, the two 860 9XX LPs are preceded by Discobole 860311 "Sound Illustration for Radio-TV-Cinema n° 11: Voyage en flûte" by Ida Heidel. I don't of the two LPs that follow these two (#14, #15), but they are succeeded by 870516 "Magic Music n° 2".

I'll just add - Illustra-Son seems to be the latest label name used, running from the mid-to-late-80's into the CD age. The label was even active well into the 2000's, but seems to have closed down/gone bankrupt a few years ago. Not sure if Monsieur Delaye is still around.

Oh, wow! Beautiful, thank you! Totally makes sense.

So maybe #14 and #15 may have been with similar pixelated cover style and I've really seen them. Probably one of them is Magic Music n°1.
#18 seems to be missing too. Could it (or one of the other missing ones) be Force I?

By the way, I once had this one, and it had about 8 songs from Enfantillages (IS 870 617):
