The Synchro Library of Recorded Music
« on: December 22, 2018, 04:03:27 PM »

British arm of Sam Fox (launched in conjunction with Southern Music), headed by Dennis Berry, who also was founder of the Southern label. Mostly features tracks from the American Fox label, as well as several tracks from English composers (potentially cues originally intended for the Southern library released through Fox).  Other cues on this label were likely licensed, there are cues from Dutch and French (likely from Synchro-Disc) composers on here as well.
Unless noted, all cues are performed by the "Grosvernor Studio Orchestra", who may or may not actually be a pesu. for other orchestras.
Label was active from 1957 to 1959.

The library was founded in the mid-to-late 50's, and essentially served as Sam Fox' British/European distributor. It was also yet another library headed by Den Berry.

I think I have a listing for the label somewhere. I'll get back to you on that

There is also another track from the Sam Fox library. "Rhapsody Rag" by Bud L. Cross. Reissued on CPM Music as "Honky Tonk Rag" by Lee Jacobs.

My notes, revised today:

The Synchro Recorded Music Library Ltd
Quote
British 78 label based at 30 Old Compton St., London.
- Which, curiously, was also one of the addresses housing W. Paxton & Co. from c. 1957 to at least 1972.

As a British branch of the US Sam Fox company, many of the featured composers are American, with works seemingly sourced from Sam Fox' extensive catalogue of published compositions reaching back to before the silent film era.

An October 1958 edition of Variety acknowledges the new label as being launched, and an August 1959 article in Billboard gives some details about how it started:
Quote
Ideal method for an American publisher to set up his foreign operation is to establish a base in England and work the continent therefrom. This is the view of publisher Fred Fox, who in the last 18 months has made three trips abroad to reorganize the foreign representation of the Sam Fox firm.
[...] In partnership with Southern Music, Fox set up a tape library, titled Synchro Recorded Music Library, Ltd., headed up by Dennis Berry. The library feeds subsids on the continent.

A 1961 notice in Business Screen Magazine lists Synchro and Southern (now based at 8 Denmark St.) alongside one another, sharing contact info and management:
