I think Italy has/had more tiny, independent Library labels than any other western nations such as the US, UK, France or Germany.
At first, my own intuitive reasoning was that these were dumpy, fly-by-night operations that released a couple of LPs here or there, then promptly went out of business or were bought out.
But I no longer believe this is true. At least, not entirely.
We've all heard so many fine Italian records, real gems, amongst these obscure, little-known labels. Often times after listening to any given Italian recording, I'm struck by the talent levels and skills.
Now, I always feel an excitement when I see an Italian label I've never heard of. Just more proof to the truism that you can't judge a record by it's cover
