Good Whatever-Time-It-Is
« on: April 21, 2026, 01:08:34 AM »
I've been here for a bit, never bothered opening this for... some reason? So allow me to make this as my first official introduction.

Got into library music sometime around the pandemic or so - can't remember, details are a bit foggy, but I ended up drawing myself particularly to the BBC, and it's tapes used over the test card, and later, CEEFAX. Not like I have ever been to the UK, nor was I in such a position ever to go and see it for myself. But regardless, I liked the music, and took to trying to recreate some tapes. Currently working on Looks Good, Feels Good 1 (1991-92 BBC1/BBC2), and stuck on getting a few CD rips from an old library - incidentally, there used to be a Mega folder with all of the CDs I was looking for (bar one), but now that folder has been absolutely nuked, and the folders have nothing in them. But I digress, I've otherwise done rather well with getting work done, where I have. And hopefully, some point soon, I can get this tape done.

TL;DR American listens to CEEFAX music, develops an unhealthy obsession with it :P

...and before anybody asks, no, I am not in the financial situation, at present, to subscribe to the TCC, and play catch-up with the entire backlog of articles and material and the like. If I was, I would have subscribed a LONG time ago, believe me.

Welcome aboard!

Did you guys ever have a CEEFAX/teletext equivalent in the US? If not, I reckon it's as good a reason as any for a visit, heh

No, not really - the FCC never set a standard for teletext, so there was a split between services with regards to what standard of Teletext to use. Between that, the high cost of decoders (they were NOT built-in on sets for a while), and the lack of local pages, there never really was a market in the US for this stuff.

Personally, I haven't done a lot of research on American teletext services, in part because of the overall lack of information.
