Maryland State of Mind Unknowns (Seasons 1-4)
« on: February 22, 2026, 08:09:10 PM »
Hey everyone, ζBUS here with some more unknown tracks from a show that absolutely nobody has heard of.

Okay, so "Maryland State of Mind" was an educational variety show created by Maryland Public Television in association with the University of Maryland System, and ran from '94 to '01 over 7 seasons with all episodes also on American Archive of Public Broadcasting if you wanna watch.

I've identified most of the tracks from the show's first 4 seasons already (including several reused from "MotorWeek" and "Bob the Vid Tech"), and I've got some goodies from this show I'd like to leave to you guys to ID.

103g. A Better Mousetrap: https://voca.ro/1fOl348V2PbY

303d. Higher Learning: https://voca.ro/1aPpeExaVtS6

This is "Take Off" by Christian Poulet/Jean-Yves Rigo (Koka Media). Also played in 501b. The Birdmen of Catonsville.

Also, since nobody replied to this post before, I'm going to share... some opinions. I usually remain neutral, silent even, in these so-called "flame wars", but that ends today.

I have seen far too many posts on mainstream social media about people "missing" forums. I was confused at first; forums still exist and have stayed strong in the rise of subreddits and Discord servers.

Now I understand. Those people don't "just miss" forums. They miss the sane, rational space of discussion forums used to be.

Golden-road.net lost its golden touch decades ago after Roger Dobkowitz was fired from The Price is Right. More recently, Heavy Gear Girls imploded due to AI-generated spam.

And now we are awash in toxicity, and IMHO nothing is able to done about it other than shutting down LMT entirely.

I'm not surprised though. The internet as we know it is dead. Big Tech is winning. The system is corrupt.

I quit.

I'm sorry you feel that way ζBUS. Though I think you're being a little harsh to judge the LMT community based on the lack of response to a 12 day old post. I, personally, haven't responded because I am hopeless at identifying tracks particularly from the 90s onwards because to me they all sound the same and are fairly underwhelming musically. But I'm sure if I had responded along those lines you would have felt it unhelpful. Equally if other members are unable to identify the tracks it would be silly for all of them to respond accordingly. A thread full of "nil return" doesn't help anybody.

I would hardly say that the recent exchange of posts which I think you're referring to is proof the LMT is "awash in toxicity". I agree it was unpleasant and embarrassing to read the various posts but I believe it is all behind us and those involved have learnt from it. I totally disagree that the natural conclusion is to admit defeat and shut down LMT as you suggest.

It will be a shame if you do decide to leave the LMT community after the two and a half years you have been with us but that is entirely up to you.

I hope my post demonstrates that this forum, at least, still provides a "rational space of discussion".

Darn, i'm so sorry, ζBUS, that you had to go through this. To me, i feel the same way. I don't have much words to say because i don't know what to say, but i personally feel sympathy about you. Hope you will feel better sooner. It's a shame that the community here in LMT is in shambles right now, heck, even i am in the shamble here right now. I really hope LMT will be better sooner or later. :-\

Sorry if i say this. I know this was offensive, but this was my opinion on what happened here right now.

Ah, my apologies. But my frustration wasn't meant to be lurched at you guys due to the lack of replies.

The reason why I started this thread in the first place was simply because I still have no way to run the Fingerprinter; Linux is completely incompatible, and my spare computer with Windows 8.1 has Javascript errors when trying to make it work. And no, I have no intent on using the newer Micro$lop products ever again with all their newfangled AI features, even in a virtual machine.

My frustration was with the internet and the system as a whole. I simply found it bizzare how some people on those "other sites" have nostalgia for forums, despite that 1. They still exist. and 2. The way we handle troublesome events seems to be no better than the big sites, as proven on here recently.

Our advantages still hold true, as evidenced by the fortunate lack of mass surveillance (e.g. age verification) and data collection, and the way we feel like family that you'll never get from Reddit or Discord.

So if anyone from the outside world is reading this: if you miss forums so much, make yourself at home here or on the countless other forums that are alive and well.

Ugh, AI, AI, AI. No no no, i'm not trying to jump into that conclusion. And no, i did not mean to offend anyone with this message. I'm just stating my opinion on that. I mean, in my honest opinion, AI at this point is not that bad, and i don't see that problem, but when it comes to that point, man. What a mess. AI slop is everywhere, AI everything, bleugh! Not trying to be rude, but i'm stating my opinion on that. Yeah, i agree with you, ζBUS. No way i could be using newer Micro$lop products with their godawful AI features, even in a virtual machine, though i used that often (or sometimes), but that's my honest opinion.

Oh, i can see your frustration with the internet and the system as a whole. And, i have to agree. I feel the same way, friend. AI age verification in my opinion, ugh! I would fear that i would be hacked. I'm too scared if you know what i mean.

Yes! it's a fact. Our advantages STILL hold true. I agree with what you said. Thanks for the great advice.

Again, this is not a rant, but this is my opinion on that point. I really, really hope LMT will become a better community in the future.

Anyway, for now, let's go back to identify these unknown tracks and do what we're doing here.

No worries ζBUS. It must be something to do with getting to the tail end of winter or something (with apologies to our members from the southern hemisphere!). Or maybe it's world events that are putting people on edge. Whatever, it's best to come in out of the cold and sit round the LMT fire and listen to all the great music we have at our fingertips.
