Count Basie on SESAC
« on: February 11, 2026, 06:05:53 PM »
An unusual request - I am trying to track down an individual track by Count Basie on the SESAC release N-5101/02 - Basie - Count Basie and His Orchestra. The track is called 'Comin' Through The Rye'. Now why, you are asking, does he want this obscure SESAC track? It is because this track was used on BBC Radio in about 1966 along with some other recordings from SESAC and MOZART EDITION especially when their coverage of cricket matches was rained off or the match ended early and they had to play music until the next programme was broadcast. Any help would be much appreciated but I realise this is a tricky one to get hold of, unless I just buy it from Discogs of course or YouTube where there is a bad copy !

All the best

Christian

I've had a look on the French Qobuz site and they have a CD quality download of Comin' Through The Rye available for individual purchase for €1.79. The image of the album cover has the same catalogue number N-5101/02. Could that be what you are after?

Indeed! Most or all of the old SESAC catalogue has been reissued digitally the German '... And More Bears' label. You can find an overview here:

What a great link! Thanks Mr. The SESAC albums are certainly worth a more detailed look. I see they also have a number of Bell Records singles digitised. My parents bought half a dozen of them way back in the late 50s/early 60s which I've subsequently ripped. I think they bought them through a UK stock clearance mail order company that used to advertise in the Sunday papers at the time. Headquarter and General is the name that springs to mind.
