MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
« on: December 24, 2025, 12:51:38 PM »
Well, this is our 13th Christmas together and we have made many friends along the way.
I hope LMT in some small way continues to bring you joy in the coming years.
Where will library music go is unknown.  Fads come and go, and we have been here quietly keeping it alive.
Maybe it will find new fans and new people will join us, younger people discovering the music.

Maybe we'll see more compilations, maybe Taylor Swift will sample Jack Trombey and give library music another resurgence.
Regardless of all of this many of us will be here, quietly tapping our toes or funking out to our latest finds...

Have a great Christmas.  Christmas can be difficult for many but you are never alone truly and can reach out to online buddies here to connect over the holiday.

ENJOY!

Retro many, many thanks for pursuing your love for library music so enthusiastically and founding this latest and previous incarnations of LMT. This has been a fantastic year with so many new discoveries. Our membership continues to be diverse with youngsters in their early 20s to old buggers like me and from those who collect library music like stamps to those who actively scour the internet for rare and unusual stuff and to those who simply enjoy listening to excellent music. I think it's terrific.

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours Retro and to all our fellow members and administrators. We wouldn't be able to do this without you. Here's to next year.

Thanks Retronic.  Have a fantastic Christmas and all the best for 2026 !

Thank-you for all your rips and shares over the years, in particular 'The Weekend Sets'.  I've listened to the majority of these and downloaded via YT.  It's introduced me to a lot of tunes, artists, labels etc that I probably wouldn't have discovered, so that's been quite a journey over the last three years.

Also, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the rest of the admin team keeping LMT going behind the scenes including StackJackson, Greta, Retronic and Mr.

Thanks also to our members from all over the world providing their own rips and shares, and also adding to the knowledge of library artists and labels and generally interacting with others keeping this great forum vibrant and fresh.  Also to the lurkers who often look in, same to you.  Make 2026 you New Years resolution and interact with the others here as all friendly and helpful.

Have a fantastic Christmas whatever you are doing and see you all in 2026 !

We are lucky I think.  There are lots of stars here whose passion is evident; commenting, sharing, being inquisitive and being open to new sounds.  There are many pillars who keep LMT buoyant and I am grateful to be able to come here and seeing what’s going on.
13 years on it’s amazing there’s any energy left.   On the earlier forums there was lots of questions asked, observations made but we have likely covered things twice over by now.   I’ve said before I only have one mate who lives near me who I can talk to about library music face to face and many won’t have that so it serves a great purpose for me.  I need some outlet for something that has obsessed me for about 30 years now so hallelujah for us and the space we’ve created.
Both your comments have made me feel happy today  ;)

Many thanks Retro (father of LMT). 13 years! If I think about it, for all it will have been like yesterday, but for me it has been quite a long time. I was around 6 years old when it all started, but I was completely unaware of this world. I became obsessed with my dad's CD collection. It wasn't exactly from the library. At that time, everyone was streaming or listening to music online. I was the only one using MP3s and CDs. I even compiled my favorite songs on USB drives, back between 2015 and 2018. I remember some USB brands: TDK, Verbatim, Philips, DataTraveler, Toshiba, SanDisk, Kingston...

After the pandemic and the lockdown in 2020, I became interested in analog formats. I got my late grandfather's radio and a couple of my mother's cassettes, and that's how I started collecting. Vinyl records came later. My interest in the library grew thanks to YouTube, searching and searching, until I came across Charles Talar Records. (Melancholy Time by Feanch and Chevalier it was the first song I heard from that label, thanks to Sonne Immage).

M. Zalla - Risaie  it was the very first song that introduced me to this world (Nov, 7 2020)

I once wanted to find the complete Flash Resonances series. And I stumbled upon this forum, with wonderful people who know so much, things that, unfortunately, not many people know. Many people should know these things, use analog equipment, and listen to beautiful music, instead of watching or listening to meaningless things. I'm almost 20 years old, and I'm proud of what I use, do, understand, or listen to. I'm happy. Destiny brought me here, to you all.  :D

All the best for 2026 and merry christmas for everyone! Best wishes.  :)

....I only have one mate who lives near me who I can talk to about library music face to face and many won’t have that.....
I think that's what makes this forum special to so many of us. Occasionally I very carefully drop into a conversation with people I consider friends my interest in library music and especially test card music and get a tumbleweed-type response. Thankfully my music credentials (including singing and playing with a couple of friends at open mics in local bars, having sung and conducted our church choir) help to bullet-proof me from being considered unhinged. So it is great to have this community to open up to regarding my interest in the niche topic of library music.

Don't worry about tumbleweed when you enquire about test card music.  I know quite a bit of the four mainstream UK channels, but a lot of the BBC stuff doesn't always gel with me personally.  This is the reason I got into library music tracking down music used on Channel 4 and S4C prior and just after launch.  Apart from the Christmas tapes over the BBC test card and festive Ceefax pages, the majority went over my head.  It's only recently I've started to get more interested and been a Test Card Circle member on and off for years.  What I quickly come to realise is that a large chunk of members on the forum are not from the UK so anything test card music related in the Uk means nothing to them.

Myself and about 4-5 others nearly 20 years ago started collecting the library albums that C4 used and the S4C albums came mainly from my memory.  Once that project was completed, then repeated when hard drives became cheaper as lossless files.  From there I got a haul of library albums being chucked out by the BBC and I filled my car with boxes and boxes of vinyl weighing a ton.  Thankfully I had a large estate car back then.  With that haul, it introduced me to a lot of artists and albums I hadn't heard of and it went from there.  Loads of discussions about library music and test card tracks and sharing of a common theme then has kept me interested ever since.  I'm grateful to all on here that still contribute and introduce me to lots of music I may not have considered.  A lot of Italian library I love and again thank members here for introducing me to that.

Like Retronic, I'm a bit old school and often come across threads like Digga's unreleased soundtracks from films years ago that I remember watching as a kid and often again revisit.  These really cheer me up as when I originally watched them I had no idea they were library albums and good to have them as a copy to remember my youth.  Sorry, I've waffled on a bit here and off topic slightly.  Time to go open my first beer of the evening.

Thanks for starting this topic Retro. I was so busy with holiday preparations that I almost missed it.
But music has always kept me company, both in busy times and in relaxing ones.
13 years...feew! That's a significant amount of time in the economy of a lifetime. And who knows what the future holds...
This is home for me, and I'm sure it will remain warm and cozy for a long time to come.

I wish you all a peaceful Christmas, and may the new year be full of joy.
G.

I, too, fell down the library music rabbit hole during the lockdown years—followed a loose thread named Keith Papworth, and somehow ended up here. What I found was a generous, welcoming corner of the internet, where curiosity circulates freely, and enthusiasm is always matched with interest.

Like many of you, I show up early—coffee in hand, long before the day’s obligations dull the edges. For a brief, treasured moment, it’s just the music, the hunt, and that shared hum of discovery.

My very best wishes to everyone here for the Christmas and end-of-year celebrations. Tomorrow starts a new year; well, we'll do our best to give out the best version of ourselves, with the help of this small musical bubble!!!

Thank you all for keeping this place alive.

A casual fact, but one worth knowing...

One of the most popular albums of the 80s, "Words" by F.R. David, includes Joël Fajerman on drums (Linn Drum Computer).
