Brian Bennett/World Rally Championship documentary (1979)

I found the following documentary, Coup de Grâce, about the 1979 World Rally Championship, on YT’s Ford Heritage channel:

Brian Bennett’s ‘Solstice,’ from his 1978 album Voyage, plays over the opening sequence. The makers of this documentary must have sourced the piece from Bruton Music, which in 1980 would reissue Voyage as Fantasia. It’s another example, then, of Robin Phillips licensing out music on tape, before it was issued in the library. It also means that the album’s six tracks, under their new library titles, had been registered with the MCPS in 1979 under ‘T’ (for ‘tape’) numbers, thus ensuring that mechanical royalties for such usage would find their way to both the library and the composer.

I find this sort of thing fascinating.

When you dig into The Sweeney and library tracks used there’s details like this.  Thames approached libraries I believe and asked for sone more drama stuff and the cur sheets show titles that were later released on LPs with different names.  The earlier ones being more descriptive - chase 2

Thanks Bruton Music. I love reading these background snippets from you and Lord Thames. One could say there's enough to write a book about it. Oh, no wait!! :)
