British CD and digital label under Bruton Music Ltd., started as an offshoot of the commercial label Lo Recordings, founded by Jon Tye and Gavin O'Shea, and featuring composers and artists from Lo Recordings, as well as from the stables of Tummy Touch, Ninja Tune and The Big Chill Label.

Some of the featured names might be familiar to some of you from outside library, including Matt Ducasse of Skylab, Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, Bonobo, Shpongle, members of The Cinematic Orchestra and DJ Food, and the library-associated Luke Vibert and Jonny Trunk. More well-known names in library Barry Forgie and Bernard Fevre also make an appearance here.

The Jonny Trunk-penned liner notes of their 100th release sums it up quite well
"[A] catalogue of useful modern music made by a series of interesting composers that were never really supposed to make library music at all. Which is exactly why it still works. And who’d have thought that was possible?"

As far as I can tell, all the CD releases are undated, but some can be dated based on their DADC-assigned CD matrix/runout mastering codes.

Hip hop, latin, cinematic jazz & esoteric sounds
by Wagon Christ, 9 Lazy 9, Amon Tobin, Pest, Skalpel, DJ Food, Coldcut, Fog, Funki Porcini, Homelife, Rainstick ORchestra, Skalpel & Blackhead

Quote
Ninja Tune
Founded in 1990 by audio pioneers Coldcut, Ninja Tune have been finding, making and releasing new music across and beyond what is known as electronic or dance music.

Spanning jazz, hip hop, breakbeat, drum and bass, folk and world, Ninja are deservedly known as one of the most successful and innovative contemporary independent labels.

Quote
Blockhead (20)
The son of an artist from downtown New York, Blockhead not only produces art-rap and comedy but also exquisite, emotional instrumental hip hop

Coldcut (10)
The original pioneers of UK sample based electronic music. Constantly pushing the boundaries and embracing and creating new technologies

DJ Food (09, 13)
A shadowy cartel of Ninja producers bringing together breaks, loops, mental samples, hip hop and drum & bass. Tasty!

Fog (11, 18)
Andrew Broder from Minneapolis, Minnesota lives for the unique, autobiographical music he makes using everything from turntables to feather dusters

Funki Porcini (12, 19)
Makes music that is the fruit of a well travelled life. From London to L.A., San Fran to Rome, James has created a jazz infused soundtrack that's full of humour and groove

Homelife (15)
Homelife are an organic pool of musicians marshalled by foreman Paddy Steer and including 808 State's Graham Massey. Their ever evolving sound owes much to the many influences of those who pop in and out of the pool

Pest (04, 06)
Pest mix up jazz, hip hop, funk, techno, rock and UK garage with punk sensibilities & the results are strangely gorgeous

Rainstick Orchestra (16)
As fellow DJs in Tokyo, Baku Tsunoda and Naomichi Tanaka met and began creating their delicate 'systems music' with a touch of minimalism, techno & jazz

Skalpel (05, 07)
Marcin Cichy & Igor Pudlo from Wroclaw, Poland serve up the dusty and smoky spirit of 60s/70s Polish Jazz in a 21st century package

Amon Tobin (03)
;Montreal based Brazilian ex-pat and one of Ninja's most successful signings. Now immersed in the world of video game soundtracks

Wagon Christ (01, 07)
AKA Luke Vibert, Plug, Kerrier District. Cornish beatfreak & electronic composer extraordinaire

9 Lazy 9 (02, 08, 14)
Their sound, distinctively more sun than North Sea, is a smoky Mediterranean mix of vines and good times, famed for their early 90s album 'Paradise blown'. One of the Ninja originals

Quote

Quote
Blockhead (11, 17)
The son of an artist from downtown New York, Blockhead not only produces art-rap and comedy but also exquisite, emotional instrumental hip hop

Cabbageboy (18)
Si Begg is renowned for his originality and downright funkiness in the world of electronic music through his many production guises and output on his own Mosquito (with Christian Vogel) and Noodles labels.

DJ Food (01)
A shadowy cartel of Ninja producers bringing together breaks, loops, mental samples, hip hop and drum & bass. Tasty!

DJ Vadim (02, 12, 15)
Founder of Jazz Fudge in '95, A&R, DJ, promoter, record collector, radio presenter, painter, writer, in-house producer and artist of immense talent. In summary, the hardest working man in modern music.

Dynamic Syncopation (14, 16)
Jonny Cuba and the Loop Professor's mix of 'tru-school' hip hop, heavy instrumental beats and quotable rhymes are what DSP are all about.

Homelife (03, 06, 21)
Homelife are an organic pool of musicians marshalled by foreman Paddy Steer and including 808 State's Graham Massey. Their ever evolving sound owes much to the many influences of those who pop in and out of the pool

Irresistible Force (05)
AKA Mixmaster Morris - the hardest working chillout DJ in the world. An underground legend of the party scene. He has played at the Berlin Love Parade for 10 years running!

New Flash (04)
Produce a thrillingly innovative amalgam of hip hop, dancehall, UK garage, soul, funk and soundsystem culture, hailing from Birmingham, York & Grenada.

Pest (07)
Pest mix up jazz, hip hop, funk, techno, rock and UK garage with punk sensibilities & the results are strangely gorgeous

Skalpel (10)
Marcin Cichy & Igor Pudlo from Wroclaw, Poland serve up the dusty and smoky spirit of 60s/70s Polish Jazz in a 21st century package

Super Numeri (08, 20)
Create contemporary, psychedelic music of delicate beauty with classic rock 'n' roll instrumentation and the odd bit of brass, woodwind, harp and strings.

Wagon Christ (13)
AKA Luke Vibert, Plug, Kerrier District. Cornish beatfreak & electronic composer extraordinaire

9 Lazy 9 (09, 19)
Their sound, distinctively more sun than North Sea, is a smoky Mediterranean mix of vines and good times, famed for their early 90s album 'Paradise blown'. One of the Ninja originals

Bohemian Rock, sci-fi- Electro, unruly Latin, wanton Funk and Exotica
by Patrick & Eugene, Tim Love Lee, Mescalito, Justin Drake, Liquid Anderson, Organic Audio, Flight, Los Chicharrons, Mr George, Junkie Slip & La Rue

Quote
Tummy Touch
The bohemian delinquent of London's electronica scene.

Outsider art and half crazed frock jockeys. Sleazy listening, deviant dealers and dancefloor mishaps. Hoxton fins in a spin, electro porn beauties nestling with mouldy old men in an all night Brick Lane bagel boutique. This is the psychedelic urban playground that Tummy Touch inhabits. For the last ten years, if it's doped up, blissed out and living on the margins of the acceptable it's found a loving home at Tummy Touch. A diverse stable of artists - from the original Balearic superstars Groove Aramada to the current cutting edge hyper-hipster Tom Vek - has given Tummy Touch an influence far in excess of its tiny size.

Quote
Patrick & Eugene (01, 06, 16)
Occupying the uneasy middle ground between Chas & Dave and Sun Ra, this duo's brand of post modern music hall never fails to shock, awe and entertain.

Tim Love Lee (07, 12)
Lee is the eccentric head honcho of the Tummy Touch label and his increasingly sci-fi musical trajectory looks set to take him intergalactic very soon.

Mescalito (02, 10)
Derek O'Sullivan splits his time between shoe gazing, trouble making and creating the most hauntingly beautiful music we've heard in a while.

Justin Drake (09)
One half of house music legends, Peace Division, Justin has been an in demand DJ, remixer and producer for nearly fifteen years but his sound is as fresh today as it's always been.

Liquid Anderson (05, 13, 19)
The man behind the microphone of some of pops most twisted moments turns out to be a bit of a studio wiz in his own right.

Organic Audio (04, 14)
Born from the ashes of The Freakniks, who pretty much invented Trip Hop back in the day, Organic Audio's blend of samba, house and funk never fails to set the dance floor alight.

Flight (18)
Freestyle improvisation project from Matty 'Skylab' and Lascelles Gordon of 7-Hurtz with Diana Gutkins and Ken Kamabayashi.
Together they create a mesmeric, psychedelic gumbo, deep and strong.

Mr George aka Supertanker (20)
Legendary east London bon vivant, Mr George, aka Supertanker, makes music with the same gusto he brings to partying, promoting and DJ-ing. A singularly oddball musical education has given Supertanker the balls to go places most shy away from.

Los Chicharrons (03, 08)
The international duo of Ramon Santana and Morten Hansen found their musical voice on the long journey to London via Santa Domingo, New York and Copenhagen.
Their fiery latin grooves are always steeped in the steamier side of night life.

Junkie Slip (11, 17)
This band grew out of the illegal party scene of Barcelona but their sound fermented in New York, Madrid and London. A Truly cosmopolitan and balearic groove that knows no borders.

La Rue (15)
They were brought up on an all nude commune and build sets for porn movies, so their future with Tummy Touch is guaranteed. They make great music too but that's beside the point.

Revolvo are as English as afternoon tea and cricket but their off kilter sound has built up a surprisingly huge fan base in Estonia of all places.

Guessmen (10, 12)
Their music is free jazz meets glitch hop and was inspired by the likes of Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and Tom Waits.

Mo Strokey (16)
Mo comes from Hinchley, and like his home town compatriot Deadly Avenger, knows how to programme a beat to move you.

The Library Sounds Of Monster Island
Pete Fowler's Monsterism Island has long been known as a musical cornucopia, so a library music album full of esoteric musical treats makes perfect sense.

These CD's contain original compositions from some of the underground's most intrepid musical explorers. Spanning monstrous rock fry ups, exotic electronica via psychedelic folk and spooky krautrock.

Featuring members of Super Furry Animals, (Gruff Rhys) The Ukuulele Orchestra of Great Britain (Pete Brooke-Turnet), Stereolab (Andy Ramsay, Simon Johns), The Future Sound of London (Brian Dougans, Gary Cobain), Beyond the Wizards Sleeve (Richard Norris), Jerry Dammers, Luke Vibert, DJ Cherrystones, Circulus, Belbury Poly, The Advisory Circle and Wolf People (to name but a few), who unleash their most creative tendencies to bring you the kind of muisic you would only hear in this mythical realm.

The two CD's have been themed to capture all the many moods you might encounter on a Day and Night on Monsterism Island.
