'Secret Crystal' BBC Trade Test Tape 1999-2000
« on: November 30, 2025, 01:25:43 AM »
Reconstructed this tape yesterday - tracks 2 and 12 are in lower quality than other tracks, due to their status as being extended, and my being unable to find a version of the track in appropriate length. Track 21 also falls under that category, but it was so repetitive that I was able to reconstruct it to what I believe is a decent degree.

Tracklist as follows, since I don't have the tracks split individually on the link below (In order of Gibbs-ified names/Actual):
1 - Secret Crystal/Sanctuary - FUN1006/FUN1019
2 - Turquoise Harbour/Underwater Landscape - FUN1006 (EXTENDED)
3 - Angela’s Theme/Marcella’s Song - FUN1009 (EXTENDED)
4 - Lake Sunbeam/Blue Horizons - FUN1006
5 - Rainbow View/Brave New World - FUN1006
6 - Red Pearls/Elderberry - FUN1019
7 - Terra Nova/Zarin - FUN1019
8 - Forgotten Times/Cirrus - FUN1019
9 - Sandyhill/Sands of Time - FUN1009
10 - Highly Prized/Role Model - FUN1014 (SHORTENED)
11 - Flying Legend/Cruiseship - FUN1019
12 - Champagne Lady/Amethyst - FUN1009 (EXTENDED)
13 - Nightglade/Winter Sun - FUN1019
14 - Lycus/Newlife - FUN1006/FUN1019 (EXTENDED)
15 - Zaphonic/Purple Clouds - FUN1019
16 - Xycon/Time And Space - FUN1006/1019
17 - Deep Dream/Headlands - FUN1019
18 - Jersey Royal/Goodlife - FUN1019
19 - Beyond The Clouds/Tears For The World - FUN1006/1019
20 - Hilton Towers/Penthouse Suite - FUN1019
21 - Golden Touch/Images of Love - FUN1012 (EXTENDED)
22 - Sky Fly/Skiing - FUN1019

P.S. if anybody knows where I might be able to find those extended/shortened tracks, do not hesitate to let me know - if I receive enough info, and the discs are available, I will make every attempt to update this tape with those tracks properly replaced.

UPD 12/7 - V2 of Recon made, then subsequently replaced with V3 - Angela's Theme, Highly Prized, and Lycus have been restored. I would've restored Champagne Lady, but there is a bit at the very end that does NOT exist in the FUN1009 release whatsoever, so no dice there. Additionally, Turquoise Harbour's extension is unlike the rest - it is a damn good crossfade, which I am not willing to figure out at the present time - in the future, however, maybe. Link is for V3 now.

From what I remember of the old Ceefax logs which in later years had the Funtastik compilations on them, the extended versions of some of the tracks featured were not on any of the CD's that had been released.  Someone on the Test Card Circle asked about these some time ago and the questions "were these extended tracks exclusively supplied to the BBC?" or "Were those responsible for the compiling the playlist, did they edit some of the tracks to make them longer from existing tunes from the CD?" as far as I'm aware still hasn't been answered and suspect now we will not get an answer.  I think what you did with track 21 for example is exactly what they did with an 'engineer' to assist.

I did get hold of about half of the Funtastik discs from a certain auction site but some I've struggled.  As the library wasn't that popular, certain discs have proved elusive.  I did want to reconstruct the old compilations, but timescales and the fact I kind of lost interest in the project didn't help.  Good to see you have had a good go at one of them with some of the rips I provided last year. (https://librarymusicthemes.com/index.php?topic=8340.15).

That said, if you have completed any of the compilations, I would be grateful along with others for a link of them to replace my off-air recordings and thanks for taking the time to post this.

Two things - firstly, I initially made that thread looking for music from that very library. Took a year-odd to get to it, but we finally got there. Secondly, you mention

...if you have completed any of the compilations, I would be grateful along with others for a link of them to replace my off-air recordings...

I plan to either do Supreme Comfort, or one of the UMG tapes which haven't already been done yet (I am definitely inclined to do Groovin', I always was fond of the first 2 tracks on that tape) next, if that's of any assistance to anybody.
