ESPN Baseball Tonight highlight music

This post replaces my previous post relating to production music used by ESPN’s Baseball Tonight, due to my identifying and finding several more tracks. I wanted to reorganize the information in a chronological – and hopefully more orderly and legible – form, because the change in the music employed over the 20 year span of 1990-2009 is sweeping. It ranges from ‘80s/’90s synths to indie rock and even some Southern country, then into the aggressive guitars of hard rock and metal, at a time when production music in other venues was becoming less distinctive.

Whether this change was a good one or not is up for debate!

In an effort to research the few remaining tracks from 1994-1996, I expanded my research to the beginning of the show in 1990. This probably wasn't the best idea.

At this point, 220 separate tracks have been identified for this span; I’m still looking for several others, some of which I’ve posted already elsewhere on this board. Here’s what I’ve found, in order of reported release date:

A final 6 tracks added, and unless new material from this period is posted on YouTube, attainable results are virtually maxed out. I have added three more to the unidentified list.

A total of 230 tracks have now been found, with research extending back to the program's debut in 1990. Fifteen tracks remain unidentified, and -- though I've posted this before -- I can't see myself being able to research beyond my stopping point in 2009, in part because the program seemed to lose direction and focus in the 2010's (at least to me), and because there is a lack of video source material to use.

I'm still very interested in identifying those last 15 tracks, however.

The tracks that were used for "Web Gems" (replacing Energy Grooves), "Touch 'Em All" (segment of notable home runs which replaced "Going, Going, Gone), and "Who's Hot, Who's Not" (a self-explanatory segment which ran from 1991-1995) are three of the 15 tracks I still need to have identified. I am also counting a guitar version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", which was used in 2001, as part of the 15, because I haven't been able to identify whether it was a commission piece for ESPN or whether it was library music. I'd put money on the belief that it's Rick DiFonzo's guitar work, but I don't know where/how to verify that!

Of the 11 tracks remaining, two were likely released in the late '80s; one was used starting 1996; one was used starting 2003; the remaining seven all were featured starting 2005 and after. At this point, I think it likely that they all originate from albums (or even publishers) that have gone out of print.

If anybody has any expertise with imprints which produced modern-sounding guitar-driven tracks in the mid-2000's that have since left the market, I'd be grateful for your expertise!
