Bring you great material from this excellent library musician, who on this solo album contains the emblematic "Sleepy Shores".

Enjoy

Thank you, Ice8 for another non-Production Library release by the venerable Johnny Pearson. I always tag and gather background info before I listen to anything. I'm a creature of habit. Even as an adult, I still eat all my veggies before diving into desert and always brush my teeth 3x per day. I'm just weird like that...

This LP is interesting to me because I feel like I"m chasing my tail in re background info. There's a mini-mystery going on with the LP title in this thread and what Discogs is showing to be this same LP.

When I search online for this release, I get several hits, but for a different title, "Sleepy Shores."  The descriptor also includes the title in this thread, "Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto," but none of these records has that title. It's all Sleepy Shores.

What's more, there's no entry under Blue Pie Records, such as a more recent release that hasn't yet been recorded into the Discogs database.

AHA! I found it!!

Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto - released in Australia (1976)

Now I'm wondering why the LP title was changed for a pair of Australian releases, 1 cassette and 1 LP.  Possible copyrights, or legalese in Australia?

If anyone else downloads this LP and begins to tag only to find yourself slowly descending into confused madness and tail-chasing, don't be alarmed.

Follow the links!   ;)

Thank you, once again, Ice8   :D

I agree this album has an interesting provenance. Here are my thoughts.

I don't know much about Blue Pie Records other than what's on the net. They are described as an independent label though they also represent 600+ labels worldwide whose material they distribute. The only mention of Blue Pie in Ice8's share is in the folder name. Could it be that the album was simply purchased from Blue Pie?

As for the album. As Ice8 alluded to, the album contains the track Sleepy Shores which was the theme to a BBC country doctor drama Owen MD in the early 70s. I don't know if the TV series made it over to Oz by the time the album was released over there. So could it have been that it was felt the title of the song was not sufficiently well-known or upbeat-sounding to be given to the album title for release in Oz? In which case they gave it a title of something more recognisable to the Aussie public.

Maybe Dyo or other members from Oz can cast some light on this mystery.
