Well that could have been five times shorter a reply.
Not sure whether you'd be a lot happier with a review like "Music mildly interesting here and there. Sounds like recorded in a wheelie bin on a broken Walkman. Avoid."
I sorted through every available version of these records, and I settled on these because they were the best available. Yes, the masters were lost. "Unlistenable"? Ridiculous, especially with regards to music you've not even heard before. I would love to hear your thoughts after struggling through the "2022 remaster" of Fragments of Light which is much worse.
You're being defensive. That's not necessary. I appreciate your effort to find the least bad version. But that effort was apparently bound to be unsuccessful.
How do you know that the masters were lost? Polydor has found them, at least that's what they claim on the hype strips. Though not for this one, it seems.
Try to understand that my critique is not directed at you. It's a critique of the three CDs in question. And, incidentally, of company executives who allow such train crashes to be published. It is a certainty that they could have done better. They chose to fuck it up instead, as usual. DR 7 means the music has been flatlined. It's dead. And that's precisely how it sounds. But executives don't need to strive since the "vinyl!" idiots will lap it up regardless. As long as the vinyl is coloured, that is. Or if the "remastered reissue" can be buried in a compilation destined for the rummage table, like Prog Italia '70.
I shudder to think of a sound worse than this. Perhaps on another day I'll find the strength.
But once again, a thread is being derailed because of your need to complain. This kind of screed would be much better suited to a DM, where I could at least ignore the tone of it all, because I'm not being subjected to it in public.
If you don't wish to be "subjected" to a realistic assessment of music that you put up for the public -- asking for feedback -- I suggest you should avoid doing that. How can it be that you, a grown-up, only want to hear "marvellous", "wonderful", "you're a star" and the like, apparently? As if we were in kindergarden. Let other users do that. They're quite good at it.
I did not derail the discussion. My comment was on point. The one who has actually tried to derail the discussion away from the topic towards fantasies about my needs -- is you.
How did you get the idea I were complaining? I'm not. But my comment was on all three shares at once, not just on this one. Hence a bit sweeping, not focussed on single tracks or even on one album. Apologies.
