I really appreciate this discussion thread, where everyone stops for 5 minutes to ask themselves existential questions.
Of course, patience is a virtue that comes with time and wisdom, of course!
we've all had our moments of bulimia (which goes hand in hand with our impatience),
I can't reproach anyone for being so, but as Retronic "the old-timer" so rightly pointed out, this mustn't get out of the ring of good manners, which are only the basis of respect!

In one way or another, we are all archivists (a need, a duty, an impulse ...?)
each in our own way, our own history, our own desires!
For me, what matters most today is quality rather than quantity,
firstly, because quantity becomes absurd if we simply calculate the time needed to listen to everything,
and then, as some have mentioned, there's no point in gorging yourself if you don't take the time to appreciate everything.
When I talk about quality, of course I have a personal vision of it:
I clean my record, I record it, I normalize the gain (of the album and especially not of each track)
and that's it!
I confess to suffering from all these mastered versions in search of gain and acepted by decliquer and other denoiser!
I'm not even talking about all those mp3s often badly mastered to give the illusion of lossless ... it often makes me angry.
Digital recording quality is of no interest to me beyond 44.1khz / 16 bits.
Similarly, reissues and other professional masters are of little use to me as an archivist,
I have nothing against it, but it's not what motivates me most,
my archiving is none other than the original sound of an engraving or magnetic tape as it was recorded,
it requires a lot of patience, ... but it also gives you hope.

'All in a row, everything right now' is a consequence of Internet culture and what some call progressivism,
which for me looks more and more like individualism and egocentrism (this thought is mine alone).
We "old-timers" see things differently when we've known the meaning of discovery before this era,
I mean, back then in France, it was hard to get your hands on an LP like James Brown or Kool & the Gang (imported and expensive to boot),
and we were far from aware of the existence of libary.
Only the titles used for TV credits and documentaries were imprinted on our subconscious without even knowing where they came from.
So when I discovered this universe in the mid-90s, something happened...
At that point I almost forgot about the infinite bounty of other music for a long time,
I was omnubilated, ... addicted to the library! What a kick!
At 52, I'm still a junky, but over time I've learned to keep my impulses in reasonable proportion, and I've broadened my musical knowledge often (I'll admit it!) with the help of poor-quality mp3s...

@ Muff D., beyond what you could leave to your successors if you were to leave, know that you would unknowingly leave your imprint on the wall that says: I was there!
For me, you'll be one of those Proust Madelaines whose names I'll be hearing when we evoke the memory and flavor of that LMTique era.

You're all virtual on my screen, but some indeniably cross it and become human in my eyes, and that's a real joy and future memories!

Thank you
