Hello from South Africa - and my apologies to all concerned
« on: August 15, 2026, 08:34:05 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Greetings from Cape Town in South Africa! I'm fairly new to the forum having joined barely a month ago - being new I think I've unintentionally flaunted some of the rules and maybe upset a few members on various matters of procedure & protocol in using the forum correctly, especially with posting track id's for identification, where I may have stood on some peoples' toes & may I at this stage apologise to whoever I might have upset in the process in some cases with direct messages. I'll do my best to respect the rules, but at the same time, just asking, when should a private message be sent to another member of the forum, just so that I know for the future, please? I must also apologise for not really having anything to offer for uploads as a means to contribute and do my bit as well for the forum, I'm new to this and still finding my feet. I'm doing research on various theme music which was used on a radio station here which closed down in 1985, but thankfully the legend of the station lives on in recorded audio memories. Much of the theme music which was used is extremely difficult to identify and hence I get no responders in the track id's section or maybe I come across incorrectly in my communication. One extremely knowledgeable member of the forum who knows who he is helped me initially where he knew the identities of some of the tracks and was therefore of great help to me. I thank him and I respect his knowledge of library music. I know that most of you are also extremely knowledgeable in this line, however I also realise that one cannot know or remember each and every library music track. I'm hoping to listen to some of the uploads to gain more knowledge & hopefully in the process to be able to identify some of my tracks that way. In cases where a download link has expired, what is the correct and polite procedure to follow in this regard without upsetting anyone, getting into trouble or stepping on anyone's toes? I realise now that it isn't a good idea to send a direct message to the original person who uploaded the link requesting them to re-upload? Please advise me the correct & required procedure to follow as well as any other valuable and important pointers to follow in maintaining respectful and good relations with a view to understanding and helpful co-operation with everyone on the forum. My humble apologies to whoever I may have offended. Many thanks for the help I've received so far and for your time and patience and for taking the time to read this. Any help and advice and your feedback will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Jonno.

Hello jonno, and welcome.
Rules are actually very few (like no admittance of hotlinks to external sharing sites), we usually tend to rely on people's common sense.
Generally speaking, is much better to use the board for whatever you might need, as we have a section for everything. Sending private messages for requests is not a good idea and also not so effective.
Other than this I don't know what to say, just enjoy!
G.
