For today, a set of freshly ripped Gemelli twins.

Our first, "Ricerca" by Vittorio Gelmetti, is one of several outings on the label that sit firmly in the "avant-garde" camp. It features complex and often quite tense compositions pushing unusual sounds out of acoustic instruments- or as the liner notes puts it, 'using traditional instruments is in a non-traditional way'. As an example, the second track sounds like it starts by someone throwing coins on the strings of a piano, followed by someone slapping the keys of a flute, then someone playing a very rough sequence of pizzicato tones on a violin. We encounter some really cool textures and sounds throughout - surely the result of quite a bit of experimentation.

The further liner notes give an explanation of the LP's concept:
Quote

roughly translated:
Each piece tends to individuate a psychological situation, and the entire collection is articulated in the manner of an imaginary journey through a series of subjective conditions in which memory is particularly solicited, by recalling moments of stress, by relating to a specific external condition (recollection, departure), sometimes shreds of "other" music surfaces (a French valzerino in "Solitudine" and a characteristic Wagner chord in "Attraverso").

Heady stuff.

And it absolutely works - cues like "Inquietudine" (restlessness), "Indecisione" (indecisiveness) or "Apprensione" (apprehension) certainly convey their respective emotions very effectively.
... though how you'd ever use this stuff for film scoring, I don't know.

So anyways, on our second LP the tracks are named after cartoon characters.

Need a palette cleanser? This record is very cheery, light-hearted and a bit goofy. It's not all synths either, Giorgio Carnini backs the novelty electronic sounds up with a small group of acoustic instruments, including organ, piano, drums and banjo.

(p.s. Can someone identify which synth is being played on this?)

Enjoy! :)

Thanks Mr. I wonder if Gemelli ever got in trouble with Warner Bros. and/or Disney for the second album. One of the KPM Archive CDs featured a photo of Donald Duck, and that album's cover art was changed to hide it.
