TV Show visit to the Publinter office in 1993
« on: February 20, 2026, 04:25:15 AM »
In 1993 Brazilian show Vitrine visited the Publinter office. You can catch a glimpse of their catalog at the time: a Valentino set, some Sonoton and Sound Ideas CDs:

The focus is teaching viewers what a 'sound bank' is and how licensing of SFX and music works in general. The Publinter representative mentions being a decade in the business of importing and licensing tracks and having a retired vinyl collection that gave way to CDs.

At 3:13 he plays the famous elections theme 'Eyewitness News' by Walter Murphy, used to this day.

Additional context and notes:

  • 'ViTrine' was a innovative TV show covering the production of media from comics to TV broadcasting.
  • Publinter was located in São Paulo, where the major Brazilian network stations are established.
  • His CD player was manufactured by one of the cheapest brands if not the cheapest local brand in Brazil.

Very fascinating find Bronic! Seeing the office of a (former) library music distributor and their CD collection is interesting.

Wow! That's very interesting for me to see! ;D

And for me, i heard that Publinter has both lease and buyout production libraries back then.

Really neat little video! Love seeing all the Valentino discs... Also, any idea where the track at 5:03 comes from?

This is a great rarity in the history of library music around the world! It is very difficult to find a video showing an office of a company of this kind and even more from my country.

Edit: In this video i recognized CD's from the catalogs of Valentino, Sonoton, Sound Ideas, Hibou Music, Coppelia, Point 12 and KPM.

and I recognised 2 Jingle CDs from the belgian composer Fonny De Wulf, "Jingles From U.S.A." collection from BCM Records and also the Music For Media album "Automatics Automats" with music composed by Guy Boyer.

I rewatched the video and i recognized the song that plays at 0:43. Its "Percussive Logo #2", from the Omnimusic catalog.

YouTube just recommended me a video of Mr. Publinter himself, Luiz Fernando Magliocca, from his channel.

The video is all in Portuguese, but I will summarize it:

Mr. Magliocca discuss about the choice of Walter Murphy's 'Eyewitness News' from Valentino as the famous elections theme for Bandeirantes TV in Brazil since 1989.

Explains his background in radio broadcasting and collecting musical themes for the places he worked. Publinter was born as a side gig where he could license specialized music for TV and radio.

He describes this Valentino CD(?) packaging as the origin of 'Eyewitness News', but it's not clear if the photo it's indeed his personal set.

Then he proceeds to tell about the Valentino's label history and explains that Walter Murphy got involved with the label after the success of 'A Fifth Of Beethoven' featured in the movie 'Grease'

Eventually he became friends with Thomas Valentino 2 sons, Thomas Joseph Valentino, here with Magliocca at Radio Bandeirantes in Brazil (unknown date):

With Francis Valentino, probably in USA (unknow date):

The channel itself doesn't explore this production music side of his career, being more focused on his radio work and talks with seriously impressive musical guests. He seems to have direct access to anyone in Brazilian music's history, it's kinda crazy.
