Wowy recordings
« on: December 10, 2025, 09:58:55 PM »
This is a fairly long shot, but I wonder is there any software that can detect and correct wowing which was the result of an eccentric centre hole in the original vinyl LP?

I downloaded a copy of Waldo De Los Rios's album "Oberturas" from 7 digital, and there is wowing on some tracks, which I assume is from an eccentric pressing.

This album exists in a bunch of different vinyl pressings, and has been issued on CD - I'm sure a non-'wowy' digitization of the album exists somewhere online. You should ask for your money back from 7digital, that's disappointing.

I did a quick google search, and there are a few tools that can de-wow' a recording, but I couldn't find a free option.
I haven't tried either myself, but "Capstan" by Celemony (the guys who made Melodyne) and RX Izotope both seem to have such functionality.

Good luck!

OK Mr, thank you for your input. The Waldo De Los Rios album is probably called "Overtures" on CD. I'll have a look at the software you mentioned.
