Which file hoster is the right one?
« on: October 20, 2025, 05:22:36 PM »
I spent all morning packing rar files and uploading the Coloursound library because I saw lots of requests for reuploads. Within 10 minutes of my post, I get a complaint because I used Pixeldrain, the seemingly favored file hoster du jour.

I don't complain when people use the AWFUL swisstransfer service. I get people live in other areas of the world and it might not suck for them even though it does for me.

I don't complain when people use Transfer.it, which is painfully slow and won't work with jDownloader. I get people live in other areas of the world and it might be fast for them.

But the moment I try to use what seems to be the new hot service, I get complaints.

I have given you 85 albums and I didn't ask you to donate to my page to get it.

Enjoy the music

I think all services have their good and bad points.  I use Mega as my main cloud service but wouldn't use it to share files on a forum as it could get expensive without setting bandwidth limits. I've also got paid Google Drive and One Drive accounts that are very expensive for what they offer.

Pixeldrain is fine other than the free tier restrictions and link expiration. Something that is a plus point for Mediafire, though they do tend to serve advert pop-ups.

For public links I've used Pixeldrain as it's easy to upload and manage links.

By the way, Thank you very much for the huge number of uploads that you've kindly made available recently.

I agree with redwave. There is no right answer to this question. In recent months I've seen members negatively comment on practically every hosting service we use. None are perfect and, I think, their performance varies according to the country location of the downloader. I keep a full backup of my Library volume (>2TB) on Mega which is synced with the volume on my hard drive. Since installing the Mega file transfer app to facilitate syncing I've found downloading shares from Mega to be much quicker and more reliable with no glitches or failures.

For the past two years or more I've tended to use Pixeldrain for sharing files on LMT. To date I've had no negative comments. Nor am I aware of any of my links expiring after a specific period. With regards your latest Coloursound shares I've noticed that Pixeldrain limits the number of simultaneous shares to three at a time. But one needs to remember it is a free service and it's up to the owners to place whatever restrictions they see fit on using their service. And if they can push someone to taking out a subscription then that is to their benefit. As for a large collection like the CS downloads I think it's just a matter of being patient and so long as the link remains active there's no need to rush. But it can be frustrating.

Recent shares of folders containing a number of files have used Mega, I think, quite successfully. So personally I'd go for Mega. I'm not sure I understand redwave's point about setting bandwidth limits but this is down to my own ignorance I suspect. Maybe redwave could expand on that a little more?
