THE TITLES ON AACD'S 1-8 ARE TAKEN FROM THE ORIGINAL PAXTON RECORDED MUSIC LIBRARY

W. Paxton and Co. Ltd. established their production music library in the 1940's. Background music was in great demand world-wide for Newsreels, Films, Radio and the new Television stations which were then opening up. From the outset they employed many of the finest composers, and Paxton's early 78's were recorded by the London Promenade Orchestra conducted by Walter Collins. In reality, the orchestra comprised many of the finest musicians frmo the major London orchestras, and this is reflected in the high standard of their playing. Professional users in the 1940's still required the more traditional styles of background or light music, although this changed as the 'fifties dawned. Paxton's were very fortunate to secure the servies of Dolf van der Linden and his superb Metropole Orchestra, and they recorded numerous 78's in an individual and optimistic style which so perfectly suited the mood of those times. The Library expanded rapidly throughout the 1950's and into the 1960's, and it has left us with a legacy of unique sounds which modern orchestras and studios find impossible to recapture.

SOME NOTABLE TITLES IN THE COLLECTION INCLUDE:

AACD-4 "The Film Opens" - Well-known and popular theme music for 'The Eleventh Hour' American TV series. Recorded commercially in its own right.
AACD-5 "Prunella" - Famous BBC interlude theme from the 1950's 'The White Kitten'
AACD-1 "Sports Special" - Sports results on the BBC
AACD-6 "Preview" - Frequently used inNewsreels of the 1950's
AACD-5 "Ascot Parade" - Frequently used inNewsreels of the 1940's
AACD-5 "Tom Marches On" - From the 'ITMA' shows
AACD-6 "Holiday in Hollywood" - Very popular and regularly heard in the 1950's
AACD-6 "Peter Pan" - Signature tune of famous US TV Quiz show
AACD-5 "Fiddlers Three" - By the composer of "The Archers" theme, Arthur Wood.
