Looney Tunes: The "Seely Six" cues
« on: August 06, 2025, 06:31:36 AM »
The "Seely Six" are six Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons from 1958 that are rather infamous for utilizing music from the Capitol Hi-Q lineup, due to a musician's strike that took place in that year.

Although many cues have been found and listed elsewhere, I've yet to see a rundown of what tracks are used at what points in the cartoons, and so that's where this thread comes in, housing a cue breakdown of the cartoons plus a list of what cues came from what reels.

Also included here is 1964's Freudy Cat, as certain botched prints of that cartoon feature some of Phil Green's cues layered on top of the double-tracked original works by WB's in-house musicians.

The "Roadrunner gets away" track in "Hook Line and Stinker" is another of the mysterious "Gumby" tracks by Loose and Seely, and can be heard in "Too Loo". "Cannon ball falls on Wile E." is another of those, and is the ending of the Loose/Seely theme that would become the theme for the "Dennis the Menace" sitcom. No idea on what reel they may have been on, but I suspect they were removed and replaced with other material when the "Dennis" series got popular.

I like to think the arrangements of "Camptown Races" heard in "Weasel While You Work" were original to the short - costs less to record one person playing an organ as opposed to having an entire orchestra, after all.

"Scenes of prehistoric life" is actually Stalling soundtrack from the 1950 short "Caveman Inki", which they just left in since they just kept the stock footage of the prehistoric creatures from that short pretty much as it was in the original short, music and effects and all, just with Blanc's narration dubbed over it.
