Freibank
« on: July 02, 2025, 09:48:49 AM »

Independent German CD and digital label under Freibank Musikverlage, based in Hamburg.

The Freibank publishing company was initially set up in 1986 by Mark Chung of industrial band Einstürzende Neubauten, and intended solely for the band's own works, but later expanded to also publish works by other bands and artist, eventually amassing a sizeable catalogue of works.
Being previously familiar with Einstürzende Neubauten's music as abrasive, weird, and quite far removed from both mainstream pop and library music, I was intrigued to learn this label had made efforts to market their music for film use.

Indeed quite an oddball in the library music landscape, its catalogue features several industrial and EBM artists, as well as more varied flavours of contemporary music; punk/post-punk, hip hop, drum and bass, house, downtempo, jazz, electronica, etc.
While the initial volumes seems to be regular commercial releases, primarily re-packaging already released works as fit for both ordinary listening and film placement, later volumes increasingly feature specially-composed cues, and seem more specifically aimed at music supervisors and producers, more akin to regular library releases. As such, later volumes also seem to be much rarer.

F. stands for freibank
freibank is an independent music publishing company actively promoting innovative artists for almost a decade.

"for films" represents freibank's latest project: the first of several compilations of music from freibank's vast repertoire, showcasing treats for the ears and eyes. as such, these specially selected tracks lend themselves perfectly for use in tv ads and movies, trailers, feature films, computer games, internet sites and multimedia presentations.

"for films" provides a first glance at the extensive array of musical genres housed by freibank. this compilation offers a selection of tracks with an emphasis on the newest in dancefloor (drum 'n' bass, ambient, jungle, techno, streetsoul, trip-hop) to singer/songwriters and noise collages.

close your eyes and listen - the images will emerge.

Some records are like cassettes from good friends.
[Frontpage 1/96

Whether it's a soundtrack or not makes no difference whatsoever. The relaxing nature of the selections makes them well worth hearing.
[Kulturspiegel Mecklenburg/Vorpommern 11/96

Film music is like a simile for music that creates rooms for fantasy and that has always been a sign of good music.
[Frontpage 11/96

It is very clever how the participants from the Berlin Neubauten-scene know how to promote themselves for film and television.

visit venus
The beginning of Visit Venus goes all the way back to the 60s and to the NASA Apollo Space program. At that time NASA had plans for a type of "space tourism": For the planned journey into space the German-American composers Professor v. Hacht and Dr. Cullmann where contracted to write music accompanying an internal presentation for the travellers on their imaginary flight to Venus. The two composers had finished their work by 1976, however, NASA's plans for space tourism had been put on ice. Almost 20 years later Mario van Hacht and Mario Cullmann took their fathers' work, using the 48 track demo-material as sample sources for their own version of "Music for Space Tourism". Their debut album of the same name was released in 1996. They moulded drum'n'bass, hip hop, muzak, dub and easy listening into a weightless and driving unity.

ian pooley
1987: two 13 year-old house-fans spend most of their leisure time in Frankfurt's Boy Records store. Influenced by the new Detroit techno style and drawn into a local scene, Ian Pooley and Thomas Gerlach (DJ Tonka) soon begin to produce their own material on inexpensive second hand analogue equipment.
In 1991 former Boy Records owner Achim Szepanski founds his own label, Force Inc., giving them the platform to release their debut, the now legendary "Low Mass E.P."
Pooley goes solo in 1994, producing his own tracks (still for Force Inc./Mille Plateaux) and through his growing reputation as resident DJ in Mainz's legendary Brückenkopf Club, becoming a highly recommended re-mixer (Yello, Ken Ishi, Dave Angel and more) and DJ travelling the world.

laurent garnier
The 30 year old Frenchman Laurent Garnier suitably calls his current album "30", giving an overview of all the electronic dance directions that have influenced him as label manager, radio presenter and of course as one of the most appreciated DJs at the time. On "30" he combines house, techno, reggae, trip hop and jungle elements, suitable for club play or easy listening in the privacy of your own home.
The 21 minutes short film "Nightmare Sandwiches" is based on the album. "I go to the movies very often and listen to the soundtracks from all types of films. A good album should be generally open minded. Something like the soundtrack to my daily life".

mc 900 ft jesus
Mark Griffin owes his pseudonym to an American television preacher, who claims he had a vision of a 900 foot tall Jesus in a remote desert region that sent him back into civilisation to elicit donations from America's believers. That was in 1990. Having studied trumpet and living in Dallas, Texas, Griffin has released three albums since then. Equipped with a good portion of black humour and an ability to observe very carefully Griffin produces grooving cool jazz songs. "For me it is important to create a certain atmosphere or mood which immediately draws the listener in and allows him to partake in the individual characters". As proven by his ever popular song "Falling Elevators", which was used in the 1996 Levi's commercial, he has been impressively successful with his intentions.

tortoise
The track "Along The Banks Of Rivers" is taken from the much acclaimed second album of the Chicago band Tortoise "Millions Now Living Will Never Die", released on the Berlin label City Slang in 1996. Being a pioneer for the most interesting fusion at the time, the innovative use of electronic instruments in a rock band, the group explores textures, space and mood, open-minded for new structural ideas - as in this non-narrative track-excerpt, perfect for films. However, more than once has this band been compared to Germany's early 70's rock scene, now again being overfeatured as 'Krautrock'.

the righteous men
Timo Seidel and Kristian Wesenburg come from Gelsenkirchen, Germany, the home of FC Schalke 04 who recently demonstrated their outstanding abilities in European soccer. With house music Timo and Krischan are on their way to follow the home team's example. After their collaboration with the Broccoli Brothers and having taken part on mix CDs by Laurent Garnier and Felix Da Housecat, the Righteous Men started their run on the Champions League with the release of "Arms Inside". Driven by powerful dope and chemical beats the famous pumping House sound is in a class of it's own.

mijk van dijk
After becoming bored working as a bass player in various funk and soul bands due to the limitations of his instrument, Mijk Van Dijk turned to dance music and began to produce house and hiphop tracks. He founded the projects Loopzone, Microglobe and Mindgear. In 1993 he established himself as a popular international live act, DJ, producer and remixer. He has also managed to realise some interesting soundtrack projects. His song "Spring <The Wildlife>" from his "Mijk's Magic Marble Box Vol. 1" album was used for a Renault TV commercial. In 1996 he set music to a game sequence in the Sony CD-ROM game "Ghost in the Shell" and composed the score for the short film "Femme" from Jahnke, Kraemer and Finkenbeiner.

lunatek
Lunatek is a jazz obsessed techno styled chilled out sound expansion coming out of the heartland of London. Formed by Raoul Brand and Graham Waugh the outfit are currently building their reputation as composers for cutting edge commercial films, as for example the latest Yamaha TV spot. P3 has its own tuneful dubbed out avantgarde feel created from the soul of 90's technology.

die haut
The mysterious German band "Die Haut" started their career 15 years and eight albums ago. The band's nucleus, Dreher (bass), Arbeit (guitar), Lingk (guitar), and Moser/Wydler (drums), has always worked without a permanent singer, but have constantly invited well known guest singers such as Lydia Lunch, Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Arto Linsay, Blixa Bargeld, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Debbie Harry and Alan Vega.
Compared with great bands like Velvet Underground, Can or the Grateful Dead, the band's use of big guitar sound leaning strongly on atmosphere often creates instrumental tracks ideally suited for films.

trisomie 21
The brothers Hervé and Philippe Lomperz have been bewitching attentive audiences since 1981 with their celestial and visually stimulating electro-acoustical sounds. They have released six very different albums and despite all the harmonic elements they are always unusual and unique. "Our intention is to express emotions so precise and clear as possible with instruments that you would not think suitable for this kind of music. T 21 is the type of band that creates atmospheres and moods and therefore is more interested in composing soundtracks for films than remaining with old traditions".

jacob's optical stairway
The North London based duo almost single-handedly shaped the drum 'n' bass genre in 1994 with their second album "Parallel Universe". Dego and Mark Mac, who also operate under the names 4 Hero and Tek 9, fuse techno with jungle, adding jazzy overtones and using vocals, guitars and brass to spice up their inspiring brand of dance music. With their unlikely combination of drum-loops in overdrive, ambient, jazz, soul and techno Jacob's Optical Stairway established jungle as a credible musical form already at the end of the eighties, when they were pushing the limits of dance music and setting the tone for today's ever growing cult of the breakbeat.

steve bug
Steve Bug aka Stefan Brügesch was elected as one of the German national top ten DJs in 1996. Since then he has been managing the Raw Elements label, on which he has released, among others, his solo album "Released Trax" and a compilation CD "Da Minimal Funk". He reflects on dance and listening music together with artists such as Mike Ink, Steve O'Sulivan, Richie Hawtin, ESP and Fred Gianelli. Travelling a lot he has meanwhile brought his very own minimalistic house style to Spain, Holland, Switzerland and England.

drome / nonplace urban field / bernd friedmann
Drome, along with Some More Crime ()SMC) and Nonplace Urban Field (NUF), is one of Bernd Friedmann's most important projects. He has been producing electronic music since 1983 and studied art in Kassel (1984) and at the Medienkunstschule (Media Arts School) in Cologne (1993). Since 1990 Friedmann has intensified his activities in electronic music. He established a professional recording studio, released three albums as SMC and initiated various other electro projects. Drome and NUF, two of the few German projects early recognized in the UK music press, became popular in clubs and attracted the attention of commercial producers. The jingles and trailers he has produced since 1995 include the "VIVA Wecker" program, all VIVA 2 programs up until the summer of 1996, the "Disney News" program on SUPER RTL, the "CLICK" computer magazine on VOX and the soundtrack to "John E. Loskot, The Lost Hero Of The 20th Century".

panacea
The 20-year-old Mathis Mootz aka Panacea started his musical career as a soprano singer in the WIndsbacher Knabenchor. After five years, in one major step he went on to EBM, then UK-hardcore ravebands. In 1992 he started DJing at school and private parties, blinding people with his mixture of teutonic tekkno-hardcore and the happy, uplifting sound of UK's early underground. After getting his first synthesizer from his mother in 1991 Mathis started to make his own music, which has evolved into a unique hardcore style of drum 'n' bass, which Panacea himself prefers to call industrial d 'n' b/hatecore.

einstürzende neubauten
It is no accident that Einstürzende Neubauten have become one of Germany's most important cultural exports. Their unorthodox instrumental sound environments, embedded somewhere between amateurism and genius, were cultivated during the punk/industrial movement at the beginning of the 80's. The Berlin band quickly established itself as cosmopolitan and avantgarde, was engaged for theatre and ballet productions, concerts at the Documenta in Kassel, the Biennale in Paris and the Expo in Vancouver. In the meantime Neubauten's archaic and strident music has been discovered for film. Besides various underground films and media projects their music has most recently appeard in Michael Mann's "Heat" and John Frankenheimer's "The Island of Dr. Moreau".

kreidler
Kreidler hail from Düsseldorf, back yard to no lesser legends than Kraftwerk and Neu!. Opinion-forming music press call Kreidler "The Next Big ThinG" from Germany: "The freshest post-rock, post-everything LP this side of Tortoise's 'Millions Now Living...' album" (Wire). Media theory and DJ culture kickin' off on the dancefloor. Entertainers creating space for sounds to resound, a band playing tracks as if the musicians themselves were samples. On the pure instrumental "Weekend" album Kreidler combine theremin and rhythm machines with mantric drumming and sampled sounds in order to create strong grooves and simple minimalist melodies.

harmonia
September 1976: Achim Roedelius, Michael Rother and Dieter Moebius, known as Harmonia, are joined by a young british ex-pop star and now experimental avantgarde musician Brian Eno. Introduced by a journalist, Eno has always admired the work of the influential trio and is keen to work with them on a joint album. For some ten days, musical characters blend most creatively, and it is decided to finish recording later that year. However, this was never to happen. 20 years later Achim Roedelius restores the original Harmonia/Eno-recordings, having found the master tapes in Eno's archives. The results are stunning, both musically and historically. Sounds so familiar today are created for the first time, analogue warmth, inspired jamming, amazing soundscapes ...

idee des nordens
The debut album of the Hamburg based duo Idee Des Nordens "Elation-Elegance-Exaltation" was released in 1995 and combined industrial sounds, pop and dance rhythms, wave melodies and classical fragments in an eclectic and original way. On the latest release "Secret Moments" there is a unique cover version of "Riders On The Storm". The predominantly instrumental tracks work with a melancholic, melodic ambience, the unusual instrumentation stimulates visual images. "The music influences the perception of the pictures just as the pictures create a new impression of the music".

lucky loop
Composer, producer, arranger and musician Jörn Erkau is the centre of Lucky Loop. Living in Hamburg he is also the owner of Leaving this Planet recording studios. Erkau was contracted to write and produce the music with renowned avantgarde dance and theatre ensemble COAX for thei theatre piece "Drifting". The German Goethe Institute provided him with contracts for various film scores. After his first solo project "Mechanical Man" he began working with the popular singer Esther Rohlfs (who also can be heard on the soundtrack to the TV series "24 Jump Street") and DJ Nils Herrndorf alias Nasty-NFX. Together they create a film-musical variation of drum 'n' bass with jazz elements and easy electronic listening.

fm einheit
For a couple of years now the ex-drummer of Einstürzende Neubauten, FM Einheit, has been developing a solo career separately from the band. Above all he has made a name for himself as a composer for theatre and radio-plays. Some of his better known works include Heiner Müller's "Prometheus", Edward Bond's "Lear", Horvath's "SLadek", Brecht's "Mutter Courage" as well as his award winning collaboration with radio play author Andreas Ammer ("Radio Inferno", "Apokalypse Live", "Deutsche Krieger").

being
The 24 year old David Being, the genius behind „Being“, stepped out of Edinburgh's ambient music scene. Before he became popular with his 1995 album "Tides" he had made his first musical experiences as a keyboarder in a rock band as well as playing live gigs in the bars of his hometown. For Andrew Weatherall's Emission label he produced a couple of singles, some in collaboration with Claude Young. Relaxed ambient sounds mixed with electro and acid jazz elements quickly created his personal sound cosmos that is both timeless and right up to date.

humate
At the early age of 7 Gerret Frerichs began to play the drums. And did so for the next 10 years gathering experience in different bands before he became a club DJ. With the acid house trend (88/89) Gerret became more serious about his activities as a DJ and produced his first release. In 1991 he founded Humate with Oliver Huntemann and the pianist P. Kjonberg, which he still holds up as his project. Gerret has worked on remixes of Human League's "House Full of Nothing" and Paraglider's "Bagdad". His track on "for films edit. 1" has been frequently played on TV and used for industrial films.

tindersticks
The British pop band Tindersticks is probably the only band with a violinist who has a M. A. in Mexican Literature. Founded in 1992 the sextet from London has released three albums - beautiful pop songs of magic melancholy - two live albums and the soundtrack to "Nenette et Boni" (1996). Last year the Tindersticks performed in London's Institute of Contemporary Arts on five consecutive days, where they demonstrated their many musical faces. For their current album "Curtains" they used plenty of violins, which happened to attract actress Isabella Rossellini. She joined Tindersticks in the duet "A Marriage Made In Heaven". The Tindersticks also released an unofficial album with tracks suitable for films, which can be ordered through Freibank.

meat beat manifesto
The story of Meat Beat Manifesto (MBM) began in London in 1987. It was a collective of individuals centred around songwriter and singer Jack Dangers. (Today, Dangers alone represents MBM.) He collaborated with a guitarist, a dancer, a choreographer and a stage and costume designer to produce drivingly spectacular trance 'n' dance pieces for the stage. His fascination for visual media provided for a fusion between "white" rap, stage and video. This prompted the music station MTV to contract MBM to create seven trailers for their daily program (1990).

front 242
When Daniel B. founded Front 242 in 1981, no one could foresee the lasting influence the Belgian "electro-freaks" would have on the musical development of the 80s. The danceable and very minimal synthi-sound was soon called EBM - "electronic body music" - a label that spread from Belgium to the rest of Europe and then the US. It soon stood for an entire movement. Front 242 still belong to the innovative representatives of the electro-scene. Thanks to diverse interests and collaborations with other bands and musicians they are involved in all types of adjacent projects. They have proved that they understand how to express the contemporary spirit with musical moods and atmospheres.

pete namlook
Pete Namlook aka Peter Kuhlmann is the head of Fax Records, producing and releasing acts like Sequential, Lunatic, Flux, Millennium, Harmonize, Music For Ballet, The Dark Side of the Moog and Kooler. In order to pursue innovations in music, Pete does not strictly define ambient music, nor does he see it as boring music with strict laws. On his Fax Records label, he releases one new record every week, limited to 400-600 copies and sold to the furthest corners of our planet. For Pete, ambient music can be dance, chill out, jazz or simply all kinds of music. He is one of the most remarkable figures of 90's electronic music and sometimes even called „the guru of ambient“. In the US several of his tracks are featured on videos and films.

jorge reyes
Jorge Reyes is one of the most popular musicians in Mexico. As a creative multi-instrumentalist he can be refer to a large quantity of released work. He mediates the magic and the mythical traditions of the natives with shell-trumpets, caterpillar cocoojns, water jugs, 500 year old flutes, turtle shells and other exotic instruments as well as modern electronics. he call his muisic "Mexican Magic Music". He has already drafted several soundtracks to experimental, feature and documentary films for Mexican and Spanish television. Jorge Reyes owes his wide musical spectrum to five years of study at the National Music School in Unam, improvisation and jazz with Herb Geller in Hamburg, and Indian folk music at a music school in the Himalayas.

alexander hacke
Alexander Hacke began his musical career as Alexander von Borsig at the tender age of 15. Soon he joined Einstürzende Neubauten and began inventing unusual sound material for the band. His ability to transform expressive mental images into exciting sound collages enabled Hacke to enter the field of film music. The tireless sound-researcher can refer to a comfortable filmography, which is excellently documented on the CD "Filmarbeiten" (Filmworks). This collection includes, among other works, "Winnetous Erben", "Vaterland", "Nihil" and "Hinter dem Lächeln".

kmfdm
KMFDM belong, along with Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein, to the most popular representatives of the cross-over movement, documented successfully on the soundtrack to "Mortal Combat". Sascha Konietzko, En Esch and Günter Schulz left behind their homes in Germany to live in the USA, where they play in the first league of industrial rockers. Their eighth album "Xtort" reached #75 on the Billboard Charts. KMFDM's bleak-driving electro-rock-songs gain the definitive kick female guest singers. It is no wonder that the emigrants are to be found on three other Hollywood soundtracks ("Johnny Mnemonic", "Bad Boys", "Hideaway").

4The third edition of our compilation series "for films" features tracks from our brand new repertoire, especially selected for the potential use in films, commercials and all other moving images as in games and websites. And since the pictures we have in mind are quite up to date this flowing mix of modern, mostly electronic music does also serve perfectly for easy office or advanced home listening. From actual film trailers to jazzy drum'n'bass, subversive techno and big beat tunes we also offer some summer flavoured latin influences. We can also recommend this CD strongly for friends, for restaurants and for sex.

If you want more and/or different music please contact us and specify your interests. We do have a variety of guitar music and vocal artists not featured in this series (such as Fettes Brot, Rocko Schamoni, Niels Frevert, Regy, Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Haut, Tindersticks, Pro Pain, Unsane and many others). Although our material is licensed to GEMA we are known to be very flexible regarding pricing and the clearing of synchronisation and master use fees.

Press reviews for 'for films edit.1 and edit.2'
"Some records are like cassettes from good friends." (Frontpage)

A very special tip...you can listen to this CD in whole. But better don't listen to it on a walkman - you get lost immediately without realising..." (Indigo Notes)

"The selection is extremely brilliant. If you do not see films in your mind right away you must be blind. Or deaf. Or both." (Raveline)

"Whether it's a soundtrack or not makes no difference whatsoever. The relaxing nature of the selections makes them well worth hearing." (Kulturspiegel)

"Film music is like a simile for music that creates rooms for fantasy and that has always been a sign of good music." (Frontpage)

Quote
Lunatek
Lunatek is a London based music production duo writing and producing their own unique urban anthems, while composing and designing state of the art soundtracks for commercials and short films. Working together since the end of '96 Graham Waugh and Raoul Brand are fast establishing themselves on the leading edge of music for films. They have been working with top commercial directors from all over the world and their most recent work has been featured on campaigns such as Nike, Audi and Red Cross.

Barry Künzel
It's summer. You walk barefoot along the beach, soft ice being your basic food. From the open windows you hear The Isley Brothers, Temptations and James Gang. The only thing breaking are the waves, the wind carries the smell of sun lotion. Everything is really fine. Summer holiday madness, growing up could take forever, listen to Barry Künzel now.

The Pilotage
This group is from St.Petersburg, and although this instrumental track is not typical for the band who usually produce Disco / Funk /House-songs in Russian and English, one has to acknowledge the international standard of electronic music in Russia, featured well by the 'Stora'- activists from Hamburg, who will release a compilation and artist albums soon.

Gator
Gator is Stefan Mertin from Hamburg. Musician at daytime and DJ at night, Mertin crosses stylistic boundaries from jazzy listening to electric clubbing. He has been creating music for more than ten years now - working with digital as well as analogue sounds, with computers as well as real instruments. "L'Autre Jour" is taken from his debut album "Matrix": most of the tracks are instrumentals, only occasional vocals create atmospheric soundscapes. "L'Autre Jour" with its haunting accordion is a nostalgic, yet futuristic and immensely melodic trip.

José Carlos Mac
The track "Rumboid" is taken from the impressive first album, "Hybrid Music", by Spanish artist José Carlos Mac. In the artist's opinion any kind of noise can be used as a musical element. The challenge lies in being able to combine a series of noises of different origins in a way that they all form one coherent piece of music. The composer becomes a painter. The main basis is a "rumba" rhythm pattern played by a muted flamenco guitar and a "caj—n" (wooden box). Over this, a reaping deep bass and a languid piano support a minimal robotic voice and sparkling electric noises.

A.D.N.Y. & Vincenzo
The now 22 year old Vincenzo already presents more than a dozen releases on relevant labels as Superstition, Raw Elements, Stickman (Canada), Dessous and Parachute Music, the latter being his own label just recently founded while living and working in New York. His influences are clearly House music and Hip Hop and Jazz, both for his DJ-sets as for his own productions. When he met the Chilean A.D.N.Y. (alias Alexi Delano in New York) they created this deep, jazzy and sexy house track.

Hendrik Lorenzen
This track is part of a composition for a dance performance called "Fade - a triptych of stolen stories", performed in 1996 and released on the CD "Bastard Memory". Lorenzen's music is inspired by Brazilian culture, as is the choreography of Angela Guerreiro. Again the chosen track is not typical for his work, but perfect for cool film scenarios.

Nonplace Urban Field
Bernd Friedmann is known as the hyperactive artist from Cologne who has several projects such as Some More Crime, Drome and Nonplace Urban Field. "The new city's construction has been so rapid and so unforeseen that we lack even a commonly-accepted name for what we have created. Or, rather, we have too many names: spread city, urban village, megalopolis, sprawl, slurb, the 'burbs. As a result of millions of uncoordinated decisions made by distribution companies, label managers, promotion headquarters and journalists, "Drum'n'Bass" had to set up as one of those containers in the suburbs. The space in between the containers, a grey area, I call a "nonplace urban field".

Lemongrass
A Jazz-drummer goes Drum'n'Bass, and you can recognise that easily on his debut "Drumatic Universe" - therefore a relaxing and pleasant home-listening album. Without any inhibition Roland Voss sees his music close to "New Age", due to inspirations by Gurdjieff, John Lily, Robert Anton Wilson a.o., and arranges catchy melodies and complex bass-lines to form a simple, but emotional soundtrack.

Pluramon
Pluramon is the project of Cologne artist Markus Schmickler. He is part of the electronic collective A-music, the homebase of acts like Mouse on Mars. On his new album, "Render Bandits", Jan St. Werner (Mouse on Mars, Microstoria) and Jaki Liebezeit (Can) are involved with additional instruments (gongs, keyboards, drums). Pluramon is definitely in the tradition of the main German Krautrock band Can, but neither is the sound of Pluramon a copy of the 70's sound, nor is the project part of the alternative post rock movement. The use of manipulated instruments like gongs, guitars and special keyboards is inspired by electro-acoustique and electronic sources and becomes very percussive on the album. The music emits massive soundwaves; sound, which is always travelling, never arriving.

Die Haut
Die Haut are one of the few exceptional German bands who have been successful for 15 years now whilst continuing to push their creative horizons to new limits. As a band without a permanent vocalist, Die Haut have always featured impressive surprise guests on their albums, among others Lydia Lunch, Nick Cave, Arto Lindsay, Blixa Bargeld, Alan Vega and Debbie Harry. Blind Idiot God count among Die Haut's absolute fave groups, their albums being of a wagneresque beauty. With this remix their guitarist Andy Hawkins has achieved a fusion of dub and guitar riffs.

Sket
Sket is the project of Hamburg musicians Mevs and Müller, working together since 1984. "Rotlicht" is a track from their first release "Tunguska" (on Otaku Records), all composed and arranged on intercontinental flights around the globe with their labtops and friendly support of British Airways. The tension between sharp and precise rhythms and sensitive arrangements of harmonic levels forms a new style, somewhere between Underground, Drum'n'Space and Electro.

Cee-Mix
"Another extremely check-worthy excursion into chilltastika from the Incoming-label. Cee-Mix do a post-modern skank, filling their abstract dub with clanking reverb, chains, horns and micro-melodies and generally making merry with the best in organic Jamaican vibes." (Muzik,UK). Cee-Mix also operate as junglists Kong Fu and are currently producing some of the most-hyped Drum'n'Bass tunes coming out of Germany on Don Q Records.

Gonzalo Martinez
This artist from Chile has had several pop hits in the last decade. Since he met Atomheart, the German specialist for electronic avant-garde, who moved to Chile last year, his music has become more and more experimental. His album "GM" is a never-before-heard mixture of South-American traditional sounds and modern electronics.

Monkeeman
Monkeeman plays Rickenbacker guitars and very old Vox AC 20 amps. His music, though, is not "retro" at all. While his songs are composed on a ramshackle 8 track analogue machine, they get a specialist's work over with interesting loops and other strange sound effects. Monkeeman, however, does not really care, as long as it sounds great.

Visit Venus
German electronic duo comprising of die Herren von Hacht & Cullmann. The former being one of the main Hip Hop studio wizards in the country, the latter one of the leading Hip Hop DJ's. Their second album is to be released in October «98.

Die Patinnen Teil II
Donna Neda and Donna Maya arrived in a Hamburg club called 'Tempelhof' from various directions. For many years they fought a battle for the control of music, only to emerge as the most powerful crime family behind the turntables: the "Godmothers" are two dangerous ladies firing their deadly Drum & House beats to the dancefloors of infamous clubs, celebrating with friends, members of the "family" and so called business partners.

Fünf Sterne Deluxe
When the German Hip Hop crew "Der Tobi & Das Bo" formed "Fünf Sterne Deluxe" they immediately entered the charts with their unique humorous lyrics and catchy songs. But even without the weird lyrics their musical skills become obvious in their innovative backing tracks.

Relais
Relais is Tom Fleischhauer from Hamburg, a man with a turbulent history. The early 80's saw him as an active Industrial / atonal musician, later he became member of and/or engineer for bands like Rossburger Report, Blumfeld, Eisenvater and Captain Kirk among others. Through his intense contact with electronic equipment, working alone without pre-given borders, he develops his own skills and his music has become "Minimal Techno". So, beside all his previous works, "Streulicht" is his debut album (on Incoming)

Solar Eclipse
Founded 1992 by Christian Maier the music of this Trance / Ambient project is made mainly for film and videos. Solar Eclipse has released various singles and longplayers as well as remixes on different labels and is known for atmospheric live performances in the UK and elsewhere.

The Righteous Men
This remix is previously unreleased, although the track is known from their album "Schwarzes Gold". The freestylers from Germany's "Ruhrgebiet" are known between Gelsenkirchen and Chicago from their collaborations and releases with Felix Da Housecat, the Broccoli Brothers, Laurent Garnier and Nathalie De Borah. This track features a brilliant mix between House, Big Beat and breakbeats, using weird film- and jazz-quotes. "Only he who eats coal knows life."

Autom
Autom. is a new live Drum'N'Bass project featuring a female singer and six young sound mechanics from Hamburg. Most of them have a history in several bands (Absolute Beginner, Di Iries, Elbcore). Presently they work on their first album and attach great importance to the live presentation of their new act.

Panacea
The track "Anti-Funk" is taken from the second album "Twisted Designz" by German hardcore Drum'n'Bass star Panacea. His first album gained him success over the world, especially in the US and Japan. He remixed the German avant-garde band Einstürzende Neubauten, Illbient star DJ Spooky from NY and several other post rock bands. With his new album Panacea takes Drum'n'Bass to a whole new level of energy by creating an enormous soundmachine. The tracks are created by a new technology of composition which is based on a large variety of samples. The album causes riots in clubs - his music is a new soundtrack for cyberpunks. A video will be done by Atari Teenage Riot video producer P. Reichenheim.

Burnt Friedman

Just relax. Perfekte Hintergrundmusik - demnächst mit einem eigenen Album.

Visit Venus

Come chill with us - wir suchen noch Verbündete.

Khan

Faust

Master Musicians of Jajouka

Osch-Chill-Out. Chill-Osch.

Ian Pooley feat. Rosanna & Zelia

the herbaliser

denzel + huhn
wenn sie nicht gerade privat oder in berliner clubs auflegen, arbeiten bertram denzel und erik huhn vor allem als film- und theatermusikkomponisten. denzel entwickelte die filmmusik zu „paul is dead“ und anderen kurzfilmen fürs kino und tv. ihr zweiter longplayer „time is a good thing“ erscheint im oktober 02.

h2 a + m hornschuh

burnt friedman & jaki liebezeit

„for films edit. 8“ is leading this series into its' eighth year. this compilation has established itself as an ideal reference, source of inspiration and plain work-tool for a continuously growing number of professionals, who, in turn, use more and more of our music for successful spots and films. as usual, the tracks on the album are just a small selection from the freibank-repertoire supposed to showcase the range of our composers in an attractive compilation. there are no stylistic boundaries: the tracks are edited like in a movie, blending effortlessly into each other or surprising the listener with contrasts. any categorising into genres and visual associations are left to your individual fantasy.

you would like more music, or a more specific selection? even with extraordinary requests, you should not hesitate to contact us! the whole licensing process can be made very simple for you by our one-stop-service clearing all rights concerned. besides, we have the works of our broad catalogue available as mp3-files, so we can supply you with an individual selection of music via e-mail.

we also recommend this compilation strongly for coffeebreaks, fashion shows & other events as well as wellness and chillout sessions!

Quote
”for films edit.

Khan
Khan alias Can Oral lebt nach mehrjährigem New York-Aufenthalt jetzt in Berlin.

Zimpala

Neubauten, Tote Hosen).

Askil Holm

T.Raumschmiere
visit website www.shitkatapult.com

Burnt Friedman
In Burnt Friedman’s hochgelobten neuem Album „Can’t Cool“.

"This is strange and beautiful stuff from a strange and beautiful place." Jordan Mamone, New York Press

Hint

Lunz
Neuen Deutschen Musik geschrieben.

Vormaerz

there are many ways how to find the right music to your film, feature or spot, in the end (or better: in the beginning), it all comes down to inspiration.

it has always been our goal to configure the freibank for films-collection in a way which provides this inspiration by means of outstanding music first and mainly.

the album you hold in your hands itself is the result of inspiration and business experience. it is quite an effort to get it done properly - the many tracks that are considered and reviewed, the licensing and editing procedure - and it is great fun, too. may this come across, when you listen to the latest edition, edit.9. let it entertain you, be a soundtrack for whatever activity of yours of provide the aural ambience. and, to nick a phrase, be inspired!

keep in mind that this is only a small selection of the repertoire freibank has to offer for the synchronisation of moving  pictures. and be assured, that all briefings, clearances and negotiations will be handled in the most professional and experienced manner. it is our job, to make your inspiration work.

- For almost 20 years Freibank has recommended itself as a pro-active music-publishing and marketing company. Our repertoire has been used in movies and television, in games and for websites. As competent supervisors for feature films, commercials and premium-albums for brands and events, we also process all related clearance and licensing.

"for films edit.10" offers a small selection from our catalogues which have the reputation of an attractive alternative to the uniform mainstream, Latest European Electronica and on the whITE CD, a colourful journey from Oriental and Brasilectrolatino to some true Pop and Punk on the blACK CD.

As always, all of these songs are impatiently waiting to be placed in the right film. And if the right song for you is not there yet, do give us a call for further input! Please note, that all available back catalogue track from „for films“ edit.1 to 9 can be reviewed at www.freibank.com, wile your personal selection can be put online at short terms.
