[Capitol/UMS] Production Music Series Vol. 4 albums
« on: May 06, 2024, 04:04:18 AM »
I discovered these on the Internet Archive Saturday night, thought this would be an interesting share. These all are from Vol. 4 under Emil Ascher’s UMS label, only records #1, #2, #15 & #16 are missing.

This link should show the search results of the albums. Enjoy! ;)

Great find indeed, but downloading them in any efficient manner seems to be a pain in the ass. I'll have a look at potential tools or browser extensions that might help with this, unless someone already has a solution for this.

No easy solution I think. I've recently downloaded a number of Impress 78s from the Archive. First of all they're extremely quiet so the recording needs to be normalised with eg Audacity. I choose to run each track through Click Repair to clean it up. Then each track needs to be trimmed at either end and, if you so wish, split into individual tracks and tag them. The only good news is that the downloads are in FLAC. Except that, for me with a Mac, I prefer to have them in Apple Lossless resulting in an additional step to convert them. It's time consuming and very much a labour of love but worth it in the end. I'll start on these UMS ones over the next few days and share the results if anyone would like.

That would be much appreciated! Especially to prevent anything from getting done twice, which would be a waste of effort most of the time.

Not the best recordings I’ve come across on The Archive. Some seem to have more “top” than I would expect. But other than normalisation and applying Click Repair I have avoided tinkering with them. They’re here:
