Funtastik Music repeated tracks
« on: April 08, 2023, 05:43:31 AM »
I was just curious as to why some of these tracks were repeated on various Ceefax compilations in the late noughties, some 15 years after they were first aired, I assume nostalgia purposes, not 100% sure

Twilight Break tracks repeated on
Whatever It Takes track 8
Carpe Diem, track 5, 11, 12, 14, 21

Hazel Crest tracks repeated
Carpe Diem, tracks 18 and 22

Secret Crystal repeated
Carpe Diem, track 25 and Graceful Moves, tracks 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22 and 23

Several tracks were also repeated from Heaven Makes You Happy. I presume this was done for convenience and also for timing reasons. Some tracks would be needed because they were the right length.

Bardwell is probably right.  I suspect as the Funtastik range of CD's wasn't huge, recycling tracks from other compilations was quite an easy thing to do, and yes for timing reasons.  Either that, or the librarian / compiler of those really couldn't be bothered anymore.  To be honest, although I didn't take any off-air copies, for those that did, they had a habit of stopping the compilations mid-way through, putting their link tracks on and putting on another compilation.  I suspect to prevent those from completing the full compilation and having to try again another night.  Thankfully the Test Card Circle collated the info following every nights broadcast.

This was common practice for test card tapes, throughout their history.  Many tracks would be repeated on other tapes either due to time constraints or simply because the person who compiled them happened to like the tunes in question!

Repeated tracks were a particular feature where a publisher's contributions were coming to an end. Summer Sunny Holiday in 1982 was the last tape from Anglo Continental, and contained a large number of repeats from their earlier tapes. Likewise Dixie Omelette was the last tape from Frank Chacksfield as an agency, and contained a lot of repeats from his previous tapes. Looking Around was the last tape from Mozart Edition, also full of repeats from earlier tapes, and the Horizons was the last tape from Frank Chacksfield using his own music.
