Large Assortment Of Unknown Tracks Used By NFL Films
« on: August 25, 2018, 04:00:08 AM »
Hi everyone - I run a Youtube channel dedicated to music used in NFL Films productions, and I have a large playlist of unknown pieces below, mainly from 1966-85.  NFL Films primarily used the De Wolfe and KPM music libraries during this period to supplement their in-house compositions, but some of the 60's tracks could be from Impress or possibly other libraries.

Last week, believe it or not, I went through the ENTIRE KPM Brownsleeves and 1000 albums online looking for these and didn't find them, so they are probably not KPM (though I could have missed one or two of course).

Some of these tracks could be on 1960 De Wolfe 78s that have yet to turn up.

If people could take a listen to let me know if they recognize anything, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks for listening :)

I definitely have 1968 New York Jets #1 in my collection, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is - if it turns up, I'll let you know.

1969 Detroit Lions #2 is 'Pow Pow Pow' by Jack Trombey, from De Wolfe.

Wow, thank you!  With the 1969 Lions ID, I was also able to find one other from the same album that I've been looking for :)

Yes please, if you find the Jets piece, let me know - I'm guessing a 1967 or 1968 De Wolfe most likely.

Having given it further thought, I've got it in my head that it might be a Cinemusic track by Jack Shaindlin - now, if only I could remember what I've done with my Cinemusic LPs......!

Sir, you are definitely on to something here!  I downloaded your Cinemusic CMR 419 rip 'Jazz-Rock-Pop' that you posted here in April, and though I didn't find any of the tracks from my playlist on it, I found a track titled 'Wild Oats' that I recognized as having been used in a 1968 NFL Film.

This is pretty amazing for me, since I've NEVER come across an instance of the Cinemusic label ever having been used by NFL Films.  I have cataloged a number of tracks that they used for 1968 films that I haven't been able to locate, and it seems that Cinemusic may hold the key to some of them.

That being said, Cinemusic albums seem pretty hard to find.  If you ever have the chance to upload any more that you may have from 1968, that would be cool  :)  Thanks for your help on this!

If I had to guess, I'd say the best chance of other tracks would be on CMR 417 or 420

Definitely not 417 - I've just checked that one!

There's an album of shorter link tracks which I think may be the one, I suspect there's not much more to the track than what we hear on your video - I'll keep searching!

"1966 NFL Championship #4" is "Rooftop Rumble" by Jack Shaindlin, off of CMR 405. I can PM you the track if you'd like.

You're welcome. Oh, and I've found another one: "1971 Minnesota Vikings #2" is "Kentucky Gentleman" by Dennis Farnon, off of Conroy BM 484.

Can't help you on the third '71 Vikings track, but it's definitely of the stock variety, as it can be also heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kskDtjZ67yc

If I had to guess as to where it came from, I'd say it's either also Conroy, or from a rare Emil Ascher library LP that hasn't surfaced yet.

Oh, and other Cinemusic albums that might have some mystery NFL cues might be the following:
CMR 216 (there's some short jazzy tracks on that one)
CMR 219 (specifically side B, which consists of all jazz tunes)
CMR 305 ("Over the Rooftops" and "Manhattan Chase" on the B-side of this LP might be something)
CMR 319 (again, side B is devoted to jazz tunes)
CMR 420

I don't own copies of any of them, but hopefully someone here does.
