Rocco!!!

These shares just make me so happy.

I wasn't expecting you to have vinyls of those Nelson, but as I said in the past already, you never cease to amaze me.

This series is very important to me, something like it's the base of my library music culture, and it's an honor to have the chance to get and listen to high quality rips of such great records.

Thanks a million for these two Rocco.
So much appreciated.

Rocco, you are a legend! Thank you so much for these vinyl rips, I can't thank you enough! It is such a shame that most of I Marc 4 digital releases are, unfortunately, transcodes... My favourite I Marc 4 album - G.L.P. 1006 - also suffers from this, as I have acquired a digital album from official I Marc 4 Bandcamp page (managed by Sonor Music Editions), and checked it with SoX spectrograms...

I kind of gave up on the idea of having a true lossless, high quality vinyl rip of the 1006 album. Vinyl prices are just unaffordable for me, and even if I had somehow bought the vinyl, I wouldn't be able to rip it because I don't have any (let alone - high quality) equipment to do it.

I even messaged a couple of Discogs' members who own that record, asking maybe they would be able to digitize it for a certain amount of money, or trade it for a couple of rare album vinyl rips that I have collected in the past - all to no avail.

Anyway, thanks again for these 1007 and 1008 rips, they are excellent!

Ahh, fantastic.

Just a few days ago I was asking myself whether there exist genuine rips of those I Marc 4 Nelsons (and not just the well-known "reissues" fabricated from MP3 files).

Thanks a lot, Rocco!

Are the Sonor Music Editions just rip offs? I always assumed the repress/reissues were from a decent high quality source. Didn't think they were just pressed from MP3's...am I wrong to assume?

Are the Sonor Music Editions just rip offs? ...

Yes, they are. I've commented on the topic of this problem elsewhere. Citing myself here:

QuoteAlmost all of these "reissues" -- both as LP and as a "lossless" digital download -- of the I Marc 4 albums that originally appeared on Nelson were produced from low-quality MP3 sources [...].

In short: they are a pisstake.

The publishers tried to conceal the fraud by using digital exciters and similar devices to spruce up the mediocre sound of their lossy sources -- which they then called "remastering" -- before pressing them onto vinyl.

The probable cause of this will be that the archived original recordings were discarded by someone at some point and replaced by lossy files.

Lorenzo Fabrizi of Sonor Music Editions has denied the cock-up when challenged about it:

Quote"... the music of I MARC 4 and all the Library stuff currently represented in the US territory by APM through Intermezzi label, everything has been transfered from the original tapes (when possible) and then digitally and professionally remastered."

This claim cannot actually be true -- note the weasel words "when possible". Spectral analyses of both the digital downloads offered by APM as well as of recordings directly taken from the I Marc 4 LP "reissues" clearly show spectral artefacts introduced by low-quality lossy encoding. "Low quality" means that the MP3 files that served as the basis for these "reissues" were likely encoded at considerably lower bitrates than 320 kbit/s.

By the way, this is by no means the only instance of such a swindle. In recent years, a remarkable number of so-called "reissues" of collectable vinyl records have been produced in this way.

The reasons are obvious: vinyl craze, ditched or lost master tapes, laziness, and the profitable desire to mislead combined with the fact that people want to believe.
