I was wondering if it's just me, or doe others keep some older, inferior rips when upgrades become available?
I've been collecting for about 20 years. The rips back then were pretty variable in quality; either damaged vinyl, mono versions, or poorly-encoded MP3s. But they were all that was out there, and if you were like me, you grabbed anything you could get your hands on.
Fast forward to today and there are lots of great lossless rips of all kinds of library music. But I have a few rips from the 2000s that I've had for so long that the imperfections are part of the listening experience. For example, I have a rip of KPM 1056 that is from a mono, warped and worn LP. When I got hold of upgrades, I couldn't bring myself to delete the old rip, so kept it in a separate folder.
Is anyone else sentimental like this, or am I just an incurable romantic?
