Help with old ozzie cues
« on: February 10, 2020, 05:30:39 AM »
After lurking for some time I recently signed up here in the hope that someone can help me identify some music cues from 'Ozzie and Harriet', a series from the 50s and 60s. Over its 14 years the show transitioned from original music to the use of library music cues, mainly by Bill Loose, Philip Green et al. I've identified over two hours of the most used cues, but there are about a dozen that have me stumped. I figured I'd start out with one and see if it rings any bells with the library music experts here:

Thanks in advance for your help.

I loved that show. What a wonderful period in US television history... but I'm sorry I can't ID the tune.

I'm familiar with this track, but can't help you with it, sorry. Might be a track from an English library, but not sure which one. "TheEleventhHour" might be able to help you with it, he has LOTS of old British library 78s.

Thanks to all who listened to the first mystery cue. Here are a couple more...

This one will be familiar to anyone who watched the show regularly. It was used for years:

This next one starts out with a kind of jazzy flute melody, later there are touches of harpsichord. Not a typical instrumentation so maybe easier to I.D.?

Both are longer than heard here. Thanks in advance!

I've actually been looking for this one, too.  It was used in some of the drive-in intermission films I'm a fan of.  I surmised it's on one of the early Capitol Hi-Q "L" or "M" series LPs that no one has unearthed yet, because other tracks from the same films *have* been found in said library.  That's purely a guess, though.

A friend here on LMT suggested it could just as well be on an Impress volume.

If you do happen to locate it... please post it here!  And I will do the same, should I find it first.

Thanks much. I will definitely post here whatever info I can find on any of these mystery cues (I'll have a few more this weekend).

Not much of a help, but ASCAP lists several "Ozzie and Harriet Cues" as being published by "Shoreham Music Corp." which was the publishing division of the General Music Corp. library. I doubt any of the cues used on the show from that library (aside from cues from the English JW Theme Music, which they distributed for a time) are available anywhere for listening, though.

A few more Ozzie cues:

This music-box-like cue is sooo familiar I'm pretty sure it's been used outside of Ozzie and Harriet:

Xylophone is prominent in this track:

A strange kind of cue, mainly violins and other strings but in a boogie-woogie rhythm:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jag4av5tedk04qw/07%20jazz%20strings%20theme%20in%20B-flat.mp3?dl=0

This I.D. of this one has frustrated me for years. It's in almost every episode of the last two seasons so either somebody liked it or the music editor was just phoning it in:

As always thanks for any info you can provide.

The "boogie-woogie" violin cue is "Strings in Rhythm" by Roger Roger.

Roger Roger! That makes sense. Thank you so much. I've got four RR CDs but none of them with 'Strings in Rhythm'. I'll have to check them out now to see if I recognize any of the other tracks (haven't listened in years). Thanks again!

Three more cues complete my top ten most wanted Ozzie cues:

This track was used for more than half the run of the show:

Another one that got a lot of use:

Last but not least, the bells make it sound Christmassy but it was used year round:

Thanks in advance for any info!
