US library under Scroll Productions, Inc., run by Win Sharples, Jr. (aka "Win Singleton") and primarily showcasing music written by his father (Winston Sr.) for the Paramount theatrical cartoons (Noveltoons, Modern Madcaps, etc.) of the 1950s and 60s, with other staff being sound effects editors Bob Scholp and Cliff Baxter and music editor Cecile Abramson. The company was established in 1960, and was active well into at least somewhere in the early 1970s (they're listed in the directories seen in
Business Screen magazine as late as 1970), primarily working on animated television projects produced around the East Coast (some of which were produced by the elder Sharples' employer Paramount Cartoon Studios!), ranging from the television revivals of such silent cartoon stars as Felix the Cat and Ko-Ko the Clown to offbeat original creations such as Milton the Monster and Batfink. They rarely received credit for their services, but received a mention in the ending credits for the late 1960s TV cartoon
Rocket Robin Hood.
The company offered background music to clients in a variety of formats (disc, 35mm magnetic film and on 1/4 tape reels), and in addition to the aforementioned cartoon music offered, licensed cues from a number of other sources, ranging from reused film cues written by David Buttolph and Herschel Burke Gilbert to Italian library cues taken from the SR label. The label even commissioned a series of cover recordings of the novelty jazz instrumentals of noted bandleader/composer Raymond Scott, which can be heard in several of the
Batfink cartoons produced in 1966/7. I've also heard the occasional cue from the KPM and Synchro-Fox libraries in cartoons using the services of this firm.
This library is seemingly very tricky to find copies of, so fingers crossed a reel or a disc taken from this library will show up on eBay or elsewhere at some point. There's some fun cues in the cartoons that used this company I'd love to hear "in the clear".
