« on: August 18, 2018, 10:06:19 PM »
Was curious if anybody has an idea where this theme might have come from.  Thanks.

A lot of those 70's and 80's UHF station movie of the week type themes were very random. Some used library, some used commercially released music, and on the rare occasion, some had custom music made. This one I can say points towards the custom category in my opinion.

What about it says custom to you?  Just curious.

The bigger orchestral sound seems to me pretty costly for KTXL in Sacramento.  Maybe a package for a bunch of stations?  Sounded more like a big library fanfare to my ears, but who knows.

Here's a very late ID for this track.  It's an excerpt from the music Montreal jazz musician and composer Vic Vogel did for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.  You can hear the section used start at 50 seconds into the following video.  It's 'Ballet "Homage To The Athletes", Rock Movement.'

Canadian viewers of a certain age will be familiar with the opening as the theme to the CTV National News, used for years in the 1980s.  Here's a typical example, featuring Lloyd Robertson.

(Yes, Lloyd Robertson was the inspiration for the SCTV character Floyd Robertson.  But he never dressed up as a vampire to host a cheesy monster movie show.)

@Tim, that's an answer to a question that I've had for about 40 years now. Thank you!

This piece also heard for 1976 TV Gazeta logo in Espirito Santo, Brazil, from my knowledge.
