General Discussion / Re: The Library Catalogue Thread (UK Edition)

...And the first catalogues I've seen that are Year 2K compliant! Two KPM catalogues on CD-ROM:

KPM Music Finder v2.0, 1999
KPM Music Finder v3.0, 2001

The KPM CD-ROMs are now joined by two more catalogues-on-disc from Carlin. Huge thanks to nidostar for getting the antiquated disc to run and providing screengrabs.

I've also upgraded some of the photos that were hosted on Imgur, as they're no longer viewable in the UK without a VPN. Still a few more to do that I'll get round to at some point.

ALSO ADDED: an FDH catalogue, c.1966 and some Canadian Boosey & Hawkes Statements and Complimentary Slips, 1956/57.

Wonderful, thank you so much!

It looks terribly basic, doesn't it. Like an old ZX Spectrum game. Hard to imagine this was state of the art in 2001.

I've found VLC can play the audio files, although of the top of my head I can't think of anything I particularly want to hear urgently.

I'll add a few of these shots into the Catalogue Thread shortly. Thanks again.

Well that was a lot easier than I expected. I've not used the PC for a few years and it started up with no problem. The good news is it was able to install the CD. The bad news is that it needs Macromedia's (subsequently Adobe) Shockwave to run properly. I was, however, able to access some of the data. With wi-fi connected the CD would not run reporting that my PC didn't have enough memory! But it did run to a degree once I disconnected the wi-fi though it did throw up occasional error messages. A sample of screenshots are here ==> pixeldrain.com/l/PKQKeX47. I think the titles I have given are self-explanatory but I'm happy to provide more info if necessary.

Apart from the installation EXE and associated files there is a folder entitled SHOCKS which consists of 9 folders containing a large number of SWA files. These are Shockwave's custom audio files which I presume are accessed via the Music Search screen. They will play on Audacity but being samples are quite short. Also the bit rate quality is only 16kHz and in mono so not brilliant. If you were so inclined you could convert the audio files to, say, MP3 format using Audacity.

I hope this helps.

To everyone: The first page has been updated with links to the Brownsleeves collection and KPM 1001-1343 and 1354-1394 of the Greensleeves 1000 Series albums. I'll be periodically updating this page as I can get the files rehosted. I still have everything and hopefully getting all back up will be smooth and swift.

Retention on the other hand isn't guaranteed. The state of file sharing these days is focused towards short term storage and I encourage everyone to download these and archive them for when they die once more.

Thanks Blackwatch, I didnt have 1255 -- you're the best

Composers & Artists / Re: Aliases in Library - US

Martha Jane Weber is Janie Mabry?   I used to run a yahoo group devoted to NFL Films music and former Music Editor for NFL Films - Phillip Speiller logged on briefly, he did confirm that Martha Jane Weber was an alias, but couldn't remember his actual name
as for the other mysterious NFL Composer Beverly Hermann, he said that was William Charles Soden, but  i'm very skeptical of that.
