A double feature of crime funk. This is the kind of sounds that pulled me into the world of library music more than 10 years ago and it still has the edge. (Nothing new or obscure here for library fans, I guess, but that is not the purpose of this comp series.)

18 electronic library chips

Note:
If any member here should happen to find a track on any of these comps that are sourced from their own rips, I can only say: Think of it as a donation to a good cause. It's impossible for me to keep tabs on where all the tracks come from. I often have 2, 3, 4 or 5 versions of the same track, I compare them, choose the best-sounding, clean them and finally rename them. So in this process keeping tabs is an impossible task. But as a general rule: My own record collection will always be the main foundation.
-
Cool. Thanks again.

I was thinking about what kind of compilation I could play if I have people over for dinner before Christmas. Library music is the way to go!
-
And talking about comps, I have just listened through all of your Europhon shares, Andrew. Would you mind if I picked out my fave tunes and made a compilation out of them - a Europhon 4?
-
I think that would be awesome!!
It's nice to think other people who don't even know about library music can experience and enjoy it.
-
I don't know where my comps end up, but this is the only open platform for downloading them so far.
So, a Europhon 4 will appear here one day, based on your good rips.

Synthesizers in the 80s are usually not my bag of tea, but since I discovered Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra in my youth, I've had a warm slot in my heart for synthpop of many kinds. Even some J.M. Jarre and Vangelis get a hearing sometimes. But in general massive, long and pretentious synth opuses bore me. By exploring different library labels I found that the output from RCA/Koka Media contained - inbetween all the horrible drum machines and crude techno-noises - a short tune here and there that soundwise reminded me of YMO and suchlike from the late 70s and early 80s. These were tunes that seemed to treat synthesizers in a sensible and sensitive way, often in combination with analogue sounds, or percussion and soundscapes that really brought some colorful pictures to my mind. A track like A. Frydman's "Nautile", for instance, made me see clearly the ghost of a giant rusty submarine hulk deep under water, with old Captain Nemo at the helm, while complicated machinery and cogwheels propelled the giant submarine through dim, dark green ocean wastes....like the Flying Dutchman, but forever floating in the deep... It's wonderful when music makes you see such scenes!
I soon had a folder of around 100 tracks from RCA/Koka Media that I really liked. Then I boiled them down to these two comps, containing 42 tracks. Some are from my own LP rips, others from accumulated downloads from this forum, or from CDs that I've bought. Hope you like these selections!

JUST LIBRARY
As a compulsive library compiler, I had to ask myself: But what about all the great tunes that don't easily fit into any obvious theme concepts or categories? I started putting them into folders that had no name - until I ended up with calling them "Just Library". So here are the first 7 volumes of "just library" music. I hope they make for an entertaining mix. They can surely also be used as introductions to the field for the uninitiated (of which there are still billions out there, strangely enough!) They contain both classic killers and underrated fillers that need some new love (imo). Most of the tracks are melodic stuff from my beloved decade: the 70s. I hope they can be enjoyed by some of you seasoned library fans as well. Nuff said. (All in wave format this time.)

Thanks, nidostar. Yes, it's a long-term project, but the categorizing and selection belongs to the fun part. The only practical way to do it is to write down the titles every time I hear an outstanding tune, put it under a suitable heading, or put the file itself in a suitable folder at once. Otherwise it would be total confusion.
The un-fun part is to clean the tracks manually and get a good loudness level among the tracks. Many more are under preparation.
I can even spend days on getting the 'covers' right, for some silly reason. I guess I'm obsessed. A nice obsession it is.

Brand new from the comp factory, only HQ LP rips:
Sound Library vol 156 - The Easy Magic of Werner Drexler's Go-Go-Sound
hxxps://mega.nz/#F!fHIVnSSB!1LBKVICRLIDTrvPzDJ7rHg
(https://i.imgur.com/Z44hNNk.jpg)
Werner Drexler used a heap of aliases as composer and orchestra leader/conductor. He was also the main man behind many projects on the Happy Records and Golden Ring labels, like The Butterflies, Incognito Five, Lord Chester and His Music, The Swingin' Formation, Peter Mellini Combo...
Some of his output was funky (most famously found on two classic eurofunk albums as Ralph Marco Band), but most of it was polite easy listening. I have saved the funky stuff for another day and stuck to the easy and wordless vocals tunes for this comp. I wouldn't mind for a sec getting stuck in an elevator with Werner Drexler's Go-Go-Sound on repeat.

Very nice. Thank you Tuneboy.

As a newbie to the Library Music Phenomenon, these comp are absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for compiling these.
Would there be any chance to re-post links to the comps on pages 1 and 2 of this thread? None of those seem to be working. Thanks again. Really wonderful. Can't say enough.
-
I have just checked all the links on page 1 of this thread. They are all working from my place. Page 1 has the complete links list. I paste all new links in there. They are all at "jottacloud". If any links don't work, let me know which ones and I'll see if I can fix new ones.

Thanks for the good words, and nice to hear, BwP.
Wondergroove could be considered for vol 2. (It is already on vol 80 in the series, though.) Reach Out and Manhattan Transfer are not in line, I'm afraid. I have a litte trouble with the sound of smooth jazz saxophones sometimes.

NEW COMPS:
Ho ho! As a litte pre-Xmas gift to the forum I offer 4 comps of tunes by Ray Davies. Yes, THAT Ray Davies! The composer, trumpet player, orchestra leader and arranger, and/or all in one. Containing 86 tracks mostly from the golden age of the 70s. Could work as a retrospective "box set". Most of the tracks are rips from my own record collection, and from a couple of other vinyl source persons. Some remastered CD tracks were used when my vinyl was too scratchy or otherwise deficient. Enjoy (and be kind to your eardrums!)

I have added one new track to Sound Library vol 203: Ray Davies 3:
Track 17 is now "Stiletto" by Chico Rey & The Jet Band (an orchestra assumed to have Ray Davies and his trumpet heavily involved. I got it thanks to a 45 rip provided by a member of this forum.) Tracklist and cover changed, so the new version should be downloaded.

Seems some of these are password protected. Not being able to find any mention of one in the thread. Tried LMT. Have I missed it somewhere?
-
I never use password protection. Please indicate which volumes.
-
I get prompted for a password for all of them, from the first to Last Train to Bruton. Havent downloaded any after that. Tried two different extractors, WINRAR and PZIP. When extracting PZIP I get prompted for a password. When I attempt to extract with WINRAR, I get a archive is corrupt/checksum errors. I downloaded each one separately as a zip file from MU. I have been able to unzip with both with other shares from the main board but for whatever reason my laptop doesn't want to play nice with your files. Well...if it is just me, then that is my problem. Think I'll try moving the zip files to another computer and see how that goes. Thanks for the reply.
-
I can't explain it. I have never used password protection. And no-one else has been asking for pw, so...
Good luck!
-
Yikes. Same result with the other laptop. I wonder if MU was having issues with these files when I downloaded them yesterday. Going to download a few of them again from another laptop and see how it goes.
-
Re-downloaded the first few again on an alternate laptop. They unzipped with WINRAR without issue. Decided I would try downloading the first few with the laptop I was having issues with and they ALSO unzipped with WINRAR without issue. Looks like something on MU's end (zipping processing?) provided me corrupt archives yesterday fwiw. Thanks for all your hard work on these. They look great!

EXPLORING EASY LISTENING LPs (Sound Library vols 250, 251 & 252)
My way to library music didn't go via easy listening, lounge and soundtracks (in the "retro" sense), as I know it did for many people. It's just recently that I've started buying some easy listening records. So here are three "eclectic" collections I made from those purchases. All from my vinyl rips (except track 11 on vol 250.) (I've become so addicted to the original vinyl sound that tracks taken from CDs or digital sources feel like cheating :-)
"Easy Excursions Travel Agency Presents..." is the banner for this new sideline, still under the umbrella of the Sound Library series. Needless to say (and as an alibi for this posting), many well-known library composers, arrangers and musicians were involved in easy listening: Alan Moorhouse, Brian Bennett, David Snell, Johnny Pearson (Sounds Orchestral), Siegfried Schwab (The 18th Century Corporation), Syd Dale (Bama Winds), Johnny Scott (The Original Brasso Band), Harry Stoneham, Ray Davies, Alan Tew, Simon Park...
Some fresh treatments of classic popular tunes here, I think. And I'm still amazed at the fantastic sound achieved by The Frank Barber Percussion Ensemble.
As a point of departure I focused on the "Pye 4D" series (The Quadrophonic issues) and the well-known Studio 2 Stereo series from EMI-Columbia. And somewhere along the road I fell in love with the Bacharach tune "Do You Know The Way To San José?" Imo, it's one of those evergreens that lends itself to many different treatments without losing its integrity or catchiness. So I started collecting versions of it and finally ended up with a comp containing 16 different versions of that song. I'm not sure anyone can stand listening to it all the way through, but it might be worth a try. If it doesn't work, you can use it as a weapon of terror, instrument of torture or masochistic pain inducer. Or put it on repeat while in quarantine or curfew... Maybe it will kill off the virus.
I hope this triple set can brighten up someone's day in these dark times.
