Hi, BWP, just coming onto this thread and I see a mystery.

Since RCAL is operating/ed from Italy, I'm assuming under an Italian license, couldn't this acronym mean RCA-Library label?

We know that RCA has put out Library music before in Italy under RCA Italiana and in France via April Music, etc.

Could the RCAL be a more formalized Library label, or another more recent startup from under the RCA umbrella of recording companies?

Of course, I have NO proof. I'm only speculating since real evidence seems to be so scarce on this topic. The label definitely has me curious-er.

Btw, thanks for these uploads. I've not downloaded anything yet. Nor have I ever heard any of these records, at least not to my knowledge.

Here's one I just picked random from your listing above: RCAL 1034

It's on Discogs, reportedly part of the RCA family

hzzps:||www.discogs.com/F-Rosolino-G-Tommaso-A-Salini-Jammin-Jazz-No-2/release/6109725

I doubt they'd all be listed, but at least we know that RCAL is RCA. That's a start  ;)

Woof!

As Muff observed, the CDs actually read "The BMG Production Music Library on RCA label"... though this has been cropped out of the digital release images, which - incidentally - is why they look so stretched.
- If similar to their antecessor, the CDs booklets are actually quite informative with regards to original dates and such.

RCAL is the CD-era RCA (Original Cast/Italiana) library output, picking up c. 1990, at the end of the SP 10000s, after RCA had been acquired by BMG -but before BMG became BMG/Zomba and ultimately Universal Music Publishing Production Music. I'd guess it ran into the late 90's, when the next CD series takes over. Like the late SP 10000s, these were produced by Alessandro Micalizzi (and father Franco).
The catalogue is a mix of previously issued cues from the SP 10000s and 8000s, some previously unissued cues, and cues that originated from scores to contemporary or near-contemporary Italian TV and film productions. Annoyingly, the reissued cues have all been retitled, and as this is the case with the latter "Score Music Series", I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the reissued tracks are also misattributed.
The series is succeeded by the "Score Music Series" (BPM), which reuses previously issued cues from the SP 10000s, SP 8000s and RCALs (also retitled), some previously unissued cues.... and so on and so on.

A full reissue key for both of these CD/digital series is in the works, and has been for a while.

couldn't this acronym mean RCA-Library label?
Hadn't given that any though, but yeah I think that's probably right. "RCA Label" or "RCA Library"... label.
I'll stick to vocalizing it as "Are-Cal".

This definitely was an old 80s vinyl library on re-issue sounds really good as well.

Did the job as well as the very few Patchwork re-issues on Gallerie until MCT started using it only for new releases but most of them re-issues were MCT re-issues first as well.

I like it when a vinyl clean up is actually done right on a professional grade stylus and good remastering software with wide panning improvements on dynamics and such and not over remastered by adding loudness compression to it as well doing the alternative effect on the remastering.

As for the main label the publisher most of the time gives a clue.

Gallerie is both Illerstration Musicalle and Patchwork/MCT but mainly new music by them with very few new reissues on the side. Both brands now owned by Koka who are distribution the new stuff under Gallerie but they are still working under their own brands because the publishers are said in the new works.

Edit: Seems to be owned by universial themselves now whoever it is by and they slapped their own name as publisher unlike the Gallerie where they both use their own names IM and MCT (PW).

I've probably worked it out. RCAL is actually meant to be RCA-L and they probably merged both the French and Italian in the reissue or even extended the Italian to include the French.

Ok so it was CD but very early 90s it's both owned by RCA and BMG.

The original cover pictures on discogs says:

The BMG Production Music Library On RCA Label

Guess thats case closed and solved.

Many thanks for these, BWP.  Unforunately RCAL 1009 (Space Odyssey) is pretty unlistenable - very scratchy backgound. Downloaded it twice - same thing.  Is it is the original too?

You're absolutely right. It sounds like a poor vinyl rip of an uncleaned record to me. I got to thinking that's just how they came because I haven't done anything to the files, but a redownload yielded clean files, so here's a reupload.

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention!

P.S.: I did notice that 13 - The Meeting is missing from the new version, so it's probably a new rip with that song omitted due to licensing.

That's great, BVP.  Thank you so much for fixing that.  I've probably got that "missing" track 13 somewhere in my Morricone collection.

Many thanks for these BWP. I've been after a lossless copy of Watermelon Woman for some time (RCAL1044 track 3). I recognise that piece from, I think, a TV ad in the UK from way back but can't place it. Any chance Lord Thames or another of our song ID experts might be able to help?

The lossy copy I had was from the BPM Score Music series which is one of my favourites. I wonder does anyone have any of the albums from that series in FLAC?

You're right.  I've listened to it now three times trying to place where I've heard it and scratching my head but was instantly recognisable. I'm now wondering if it wasn't in a TV ad and featured in something like 'How Clean Is Your House' or some other tv home improvement show. My old slow brain is struggling.  LT should be able to place it but then there's a few other UK members of a similar age that may get it.
