Not sure where to properly post this, but is the email notification system broke for everyone else?
For quite awhile now, I do not get any kind of email notification when I receive a PM, or am subscribed to a thread. I know it's not my email address because I know it's functioning.
I have the following enabled:
- √ Receive forum newsletters, announcements and important notifications by email.
- Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.
- √ When sending notification of a reply to a topic, send the post in the email (but please don't reply to these emails.)
- For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me: Instantly - but only for the first unread reply
- For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of: Replies and moderation
-
Doesn't work for me either. Not sure the cause or how to fix.
-
I try to use notifications sometimes, but it doesn't work for me either.
-
Well part of the problem is the LMT board seems to be running SMF v2.0.15, which is extremely out of date (released November 19, 2017). The current is v2.1.4 from Apr 20023.
-
Can any staff comment on potentially updating the board to a current version?
-
The board is working just fine for its purpose. No need to test fate.
-
I mean not getting alerts when a thread is replied to or when I've received a DM is kind of important. I don't frequent this place all the time and there's no way to know otherwise.
It wouldn't be testing fate if a simple duplicate/backup was made of the forum prior to an update. That allows it to easily be restored just in case.

Being 7 years behind on security fixes is also a way of testing fate.
-
Give it a rest.

Give it a rest.
Do you consider my comment to be non-factual or non-relevant?
-
I'm not singling out anyone's comment. I will simply repeat, "The board is working just fine for its purpose." That is to say, in other words, it will likely not be updated... so let's not beat the horse.

Apologies for bringing up an old thread, however it's mine and there's double reason.
I have to disagree with the above statement, because unfortunately the board did not work fine. We lost 2 years of critical history because of outdated or corrupted backups.
It's also still a problem with the PM/Message notification system being broken. There's someone on this board who I believe has an only know set of a production library, but doesn't seemingly visit anymore. I've tried to send a PM to them, but because the notification system is broken, they won't get an email letting them know someone is trying to reach them.
It doesn't take much to update things to a current version and set up two alternating backups to eliminate any potential future issues.

Perhaps this person has lost interest in the board, busy with real life, etc. or doesn't want to be bothered anymore with a barrage of requests.

Well with certainty because the notification system is broken, they won't get an email letting them know someone is trying to reach them, which still remains the problem.

Revisiting this because the non-email alerts are causing problems trying to get in contact with people. We're still on 2.0.15 from almost 8 years ago. Has the maintenance been done on the database? I'm also very concerned that LMT is going to randomly go offline again and have the last 3 years wiped away again.

My actual account here is that of hilbert. I had to clean up my computer and forgot my password. Tried to reset it but I'm not getting any e-mails. Is there a way to log in with my old account?
-
I can reset you a new password in a bit so you can log in to original account and delete this one.
-
Heya! Sorry for the inconvenience, our email server is unfortunately not working at the moment.
I have manually mailed you a new password now :)
-
Thank you very much, Mr and Retronic!
-
Since my thread was bumped I might as well post myself requesting again someone to please look into fixing email notifications for private messages as it's still broken.
I don't come on here too often and once again when I did saw someone has PM'd me awhile ago but never got an email notification. If this was related to a time sensitive music auction or something I would have been screwed.
-
Sorry for the interference, folks. But i have a user named "C201number2_1", who is requesting a login recovery.
Is it possible? Please let me know. Thanks!
-
I've emailed them :-)

Okay. Thanks, Retro! Hope he get his account recovered soon. ;)

It's extremely disappointing and frustrating seeing the original issue of this thread- which is a legitimate and verified issue- both not being addressed and also being ignored, while other people using it to report different things get an immediate response.
Retronic or Mr since you are kind enough to respond to users in need could you please try to look into this for resolution?
-
I wouldn’t know where to start.

Simple Machines Forum (SMF) (https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF) is the software we're using, if I am not mistaken.
The documentation is here for anyone who wishes to dive into it: https://www.simplemachines.org/ ::)
-
Thanks for your inputs, all. The problem is not in the forum software, but rather on the host end of things. It's a long story.
We are aware of it, and are looking for a solution. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
-
The forum software is still on 2.0.15 from 2017, 8 years out of date; current is 2.1.6 from June.
As a 20+ year IT professional, that is not good and very much a problem in itself.
-
A new version of the forum would be good. It's outdated.
