Capitol Hi-Q series LPS and reels are wonderful and incredibly evocative of their time . Hi-Q disks are what turned me onto production music, decades ago when the post-production facility where I worked had an extensive set.
But before those, there were evidently "Capitol Transcription" 78s in Q and X series..."Lo-Q" as someone once retconned them.
I would LOVE to hear some of these early ones, particular Q-1 and 2. These may hold the theme to the radio show "Yours Truly Johnny Dollar" (which was also used in Dick Tracy TV) ...and the story goes that these were ACTUALLY originally released on MUTEL, a label I've only heard of and never seen nor heard.
ANyone chased any of these down?

Hello project.audion, and welcome to the the board.
Unfortunately I can't help with your query, sorry.

Welcome aboard, project.audion. I hope you don't mind, but I edited your username so it wasn't your email address ;)
We have a few Capitol specialists here, so hopefully someone will have answers for you.

This is a follow-up on my hunt for the "Johnny Dollar" radio show theme music. Something was just found that raises more questions than answers.
The best available information I've had to date that this was originally released as "Love Theme No. 1" in the MUTEL music service library. Then it was licensed to the Capitol "Q" series library (not Hi-Q) as: "Theme No. 1 - Dramatic - Long." I haven't been able to turn up either original recording.
The music got used for the TV version of Dick Tracy, among other things, before it became identifiable as the Johnny Dollar theme.
But this week I was perusing the online recordings of the Herschel Burke Gilbert archives at UCLA - which turns out to be a fascinating resource. And there I found this recording listed as "Mutel 100 Reel 1" --

It seems to be collection of assorted Mutel cues (including some used on the Superman TV show), and right in the middle of the reel (about 15:30 ) a slate is given "MT27 -- Come Here Eloise -- Main Title" followed by the Johnny Dollar theme, including an ending that nobody has ever heard before. (it's pretty clear listening to the original shows that the music as aired was edited).
Where did this come from? Anyone have any thoughts on "Come Here, Eloise"? Doesn't seem to be the name of a movie...

For those interested, "Bevcats" on Discogs has a bunch of rare "Q" albums currently for sale if anyone wants to take a whack at getting them:

That's quite a collection. The Q cues are interesting.
There's one Langlois cue I don't have. It's odd because I have ones from the other side of the disc.
