Title: Refuel Music Origins
Post by: KPMFan1000 on April 11, 2023, 12:36:01 AM
Does anyone know where the tracks from West One Music's Refuel Music Sublabel originate from?

The Refuel cues were originally recorded for a British company known as Rediffusion, which produced mostly budget easy listening albums. They also offered some of these tracks as library music on a label called "Carlton".

ok, but have the specific songs on these digital releases ever been released in any form? because I've checked several albums, and so far I haven't been able to identify a single song from previous LPs, based on the song title, author, or even by searching for the song title in the entire rediffusion catalog on discogs... so...? what's the trick?  :o

Some of them have - on Rediffusion's commercial LPs, and the Carlton library series.  Refuel have changed all the track titles which makes spotting them much harder, though!

For example, on 'Hi Fidelity High Street'...

Track 5 'Free As A Bird' is actually 'Lutes And Flutes' from discogs.com/release/2289039-Ike-Isaacs-Lutes-And-Flutes

Track 7 'The Fashion Of Love' is 'I Fell In Love With Him' from discogs.com/release/6970502-Ray-Martin-5-His-Strings-And-Orchestra-Welcome-Home

'Funktastic Super 70s'

Track 4 'Up Front' is 'Take 8' from discogs.com/master/197013-Pete-Moore-Orchestra-Exciting-Sounds-Of-Tomorrow

'Romantic Rendezvous'

Track 11 'Springtime Feeling' is 'I've Got A Thing About Spring' from discogs.com/release/2289039-Ike-Isaacs-Lutes-And-Flutes again

'Easy Lounge'

Track 5 'Springtime In Paris' is 'Windows Of Paris', probably from discogs.com/release/7627587-Various-Lush-String-Sounds

Track 6 'Summer Getways' is 'Return To Montana' from discogs.com/release/10040900-Pete-Moore-And-His-Orchestra-Everybodys-Talkin

Track 12 'Softly Swing' is 'Dear Dave' from discogs.com/release/2289039-Ike-Isaacs-Lutes-And-Flutes

.....I could go on!

..and...

"Ultimate Archive Killah Funk Collection" track 11 "On The Town" is originally titled "Man On", and comes from "CF 13 - Mod: Rhythmic: Pop"...

One that comes to mind immediately is Pete Moore's "Saturday Night Live" on the "Popalicious" album. It was originally titled "The Fat Man" and released on this album:
discogs.com/release/2409686-Pete-Moores-Solid-Rockin-Brass-Solid-Rockin-Brass

Side note, has the original tite/release of Tony Osborne's "Man About Town" been traced? That's one of my favorites from there.

The original title is 'Champagne Breakfast' - the only other release I can find is this very obscure Italian LP: discogs.com/release/9608875-The-Oxford-Squares-Orchestra-Untitled

Brilliant! Thanks a ton for confirming that one. Same LP also confirms the original name of another favorite of mine, Osborne's "In Vogue" ("Winter Starlight").

Plus on RFM 27 Retro VIP Lounge track 9 is entitled Talk Of The Town but is Frank Chacksfield's (?) recording of Tony Osborne's Springtime In Paris/Windows Of Paris. One song, three titles. So confusing!
