Title: [Ludo Rekord] - LU 00101 - Giampiero Boneschi, Agoni - Synthi Melody (1973)
Post by: Greta on March 24, 2023, 11:16:01 AM
Attention! Killer content!!

Just found this beast.

Not all the tracks are at the same level to me, but the track "Gospel Truth" is easily one of the best tracks I've heard in months, if not years!
Also "Big Bang", "Private Club", "Green Light" are amazing.

Giampiero Boneschi and Agoni (Alberto Pizzigoni) just created a perfect mix.
Typical Boneschi's psych/synth-ish sounds mixed with rock-ish electric guitars...

As the rear cover states:
"melodic themes and rhythmic figurations performed with a modern sound, with synthesizer and traditional instruments"
And the one Alberto on guitars is Pizzigoni himself.

Get an idea by yourself, and enjoy listening.

Thanks, Greta! A nice discovery.

Seems a worthy candidate for a reissue, or a proper rip. Soundwise, this one is a bit of a train crash lamentably.

This is a reissue! (digital)
LOL
It's the way digital platforms publish their things...

Hope some better version will surface soon.

I had listened to this on Spotify and yes I agree, shame it sounds like that. this label reissued a few sr titles a bit back and I recall those sounding very nice.

Well, I was blaming the digital platforms, but it's Sonor fault apparently.

From Sonor: "We restored the full session and made it available for the first time on digital format"

They did a bad job, did they?

What!? Amazing. Track quality varies, but quite a few sound as if a lot of dynamic compression had been applied to them (also known as "brick-walling"). So, it may be that such was the sound of the original record. I have doubts though, particularly considering the severe frequency attenuation at 2, 6, 9, 12 and 15 kHz on every track. This is evidence of a defective signal path. I had thus assumed that the ripper (as it often happens) used a cheap mixer for recording.

It seems almost inconceivable that such a spectrum would have gone to the press, or only if Boneschi and consorts had already recorded it in this way.

But I should probably keep in mind that library records were only ever meant to be a showcase of the label and the artist(s) to be skipped through, not as something "to listen to" in the way one listens to commercial records. Sound quality -- at least sometimes -- played a lesser role. Therefore, this may indeed be a truthful rendition of the original record.

(Doubts, doubts, doubts ...)

That said, I've enjoyed the "reissue" immensely nonetheless. Thanks again!

listened to greta's Flac and the Apple Lossless just now and these improve on what is streaming on Spotify, which oddly streams at a lower volume and seems to highlight the 'distortion' more than the others. but honestly I am inclined to say this is pretty much the record. these avant garde composers have done it all.

rocco knows these composers and labels very well; I'd ask him to weigh in, haha!!

really a great record, thank you, greta!!

and can't wait to see more of these ludos come out of the woodwork!!

Thank you so much, Greta!
Really an outstanding record, "Gospel-Truth" and "Private Club" are awesome, indeed. I find very interesting this label.
Regarding the sound, sooner or later we will find another rip of the original album to make a comparison.

The tracks are outstanding (my favorites are Big Bang and Gospel Truth), but the quality and fidelity is terrible. Sounds compressed to hell (very bad dynamic compression), and "digital". What a shame! Another digital "reproduction" where idiots didn't know what they were doing, and ruined the aural quality of a great LP.

This is one of those undiscovered gems, thanks Greta for posting it, such as it is, in this dubious restoration.

Let's hope someone can find the real vinyl and do a proper restoration; this album is so good, it's deserving.

Thank you very much, Greta. The album really picks up for me with the third track (Gospel Truth). Really dig the fuzzed out, low-fi electro feel of 'Blue Blues Blue'; the weirdly bouncy child-like groovy 'Everybody' and 'Lightly'; Felt like getting ready for aperitivo hour with 'Waltz-Time' and 'Radiancy'. I think the slow groove on Green Light makes it my favorite, although it includes some really high trebly strings that scare my cat, but I am down with weirdness of it anyway.

Thanks for sharing!
