Munich based experimental, progressive library label, established in 1979, created by Gunter Greffenius. Artwork paintings were often created by his wife Waltraud Greffenius.
It’s 1980, and nestled in the mountainous terrain of Munich, Germany, Gunter Greffenius’ upstart production music label Coloursound Library releases their debut album. Capitalising on the success of Ridley Scott’s Alien film, the label dropped Biomechanoid, featuring cover art commissioned by HR Giger – whose horrific Necronom IV lithograph served as the basis for the design of Alien – and the music of the relatively unknown Joel Vandroogenbroeck. Comprised of bleak, cinematic synth soundscapes and percussion, the album served as an inaugural calling card for what would be a decade of dizzying solo releases by Vandroogenbroeck for Coloursound, running the gamut from Mesopotamian ethno-folk to synth sequencer funk to electro drum breaks to in-utero ambient delights. But to stop there would be selling him short.
Here's a complete selection of LP releases from the Coloursound library. It's a mix of studio downloads and contributions from our fine community here at LMT!
There are 85 albums in total. All albums are FLAC except CS 32 and CS 63, which are 320mp3 and VBR320mp3 respectively. I did check to see if they were transcoded and they are not surprisingly.
I have reuploaded all the albums. Giving pixeldrain a shot, let's see if they will last.

Huge! This is amazing. I've started listening in order from the beginning. "Sign From Space" is great from CS 1.
-
cool, the CS 45 - Colours rip is one of mine. think i've listened to pretty much all of these and it seems to be the lone gem of the library, for my tastes at least. i've also got the PRiTV CS 42 - Love record, one of these days i'll make a high quality rip of it.
thanks for 'Contemporary Group', never heard that one before. in it for the Jan Cichy tracks alone.
i am interested to hear any of the PRiTV Band stuff from the CS 50s, anybody have 50, 53, 55, or 59?
-
I have 50, 53 & 55 on vinyl, i can rip at some point if there's no existing rips yet or if upgrade is needed.
-
i was poking around and found links to all of them, so it's all good. but many thanks for offering roope!
-
Really nice post I may have a few to add to this will have to take a closer look at what's missing when I have a bit of time.
-

Thanks

I have this one pixeldrain.com/u/3ytAW8RE

Hi Retro,
I'm not sure if the file I have is BWP's digi-share of the time, but I see the file I have is 445 MB big, so it probably is.
I'm going to access my HD and drag it out for you. Just give me a few mins
-
Yes, considering it's 24-48 and files are dated Nov 2017, this is BWP's share.

Sorry to be an audio nerd here, but it's my actual day job, so please bare with me...
CS21 has a serious problem. It hasn’t been Dolby decoded!!
The master tapes would have come from an era (70s and 80s) when Dolby A noise reduction was industry standard. Dolby A was a process that encoded a very bright and compressed signal to tape above the noise floor, and then decoded with the reciprocal curve on playback, thus reducing inherent tape hiss significantly.
However, if you were to play back Dolby tapes without decoding them, they would sound super harsh and bright, which brings me to this. It seems that whoever was tasked with digitizing the master tape for CS21 did so without decoding it! Not sure why, but it happens.
Since I think CS21 is a rad album, I’ve decided to fix it with my very own Dolby A301 unit. It's not 100% perfect mind you because ideally you would have a Dolby reference tone (from the tape) for calibration (which we don't have here) but it definitely sounds fuller, more dynamic, and easier on the ears now that it’s been decoded, IMO.
So if you like this record as much as I do, give this version a listen!

-
thanks scotch!
-
Scotch, your comment is not a problem at all. On the contrary, it's useful to understand such things.
I think the rip I shared was the digitalization available on APM site. Not sure 100% but I would bet on that.
Which brings to the next matter: is this a problem affecting CS21 only, or all of the CS on APM site?
Did you try to download also CS42 and CS45 I shared the same day? They come from the same site.
For now, thanks very much for the restoration job.

I love it when the audio experts get involved in topics. No, really, I mean it. Thanks, scotch111. It reminds me of when we used to play cassettes back in the day. Often the quality of the recording and/or the tape was so poor that we found the best way to increase the top end of recordings to come even close to what we got from our vinyl was to switch off the Dolby B button. Often it "sounded" better and less muffled. Though in retrospect the sound was harsh and often lost the lower frequencies. Not to mention the increase in tape hiss on the quiet bits! :)

Yeah, I'll check the others as well within the next few days.

Can anyone share:
CS 68 - Joel Vandroogenbroeck - Digital Project
Many Thanks
-
CS 65 - Branislave Zivkovic & Andre Tschaskowski - Emotionally
Would appreciate this also, thanks.

In cassette days, I hated Dolby B and only ever used it if the hiss was excessive. I got round the top frequency loss by turning the treble up and the bass down. Well, there were very few methods available in those days to improve sound!

In cassette days, I hated Dolby B ...
Yep.

I have reuploaded all the albums. Giving pixeldrain a shot, let's see if they will last.

Thanks for the upload. The only issue I have with Pixeldrain is the 6GB daily limit for 'free' downloads, something that soon gets used up by FLAC and lossless files. 35GB is used to download the 85 files.
That said, a monthly subscription to Pixel is around £5 , so I've upgraded for a month.

You're welcome
I get nothing but complaints no matter which service I use. Could you tell me which one is the correct one to use?
-
Please don't take the post as a complaint, I know how annoying it can be when there's negative posts after spending ages uploading files for free.
I've replied to your posting in the main discussion page. I think that some cloud services work better for downloading in different locations.
Thank you again for your many uploads.

Some people haven't spent a full weekend downloading 5 albums from Filefactory and it shows
-
lol, true
Thanks for your efforts - pixeld is also a fast one, but mega might be lasting longer.
Well, if you name e.g. Basic Group - Expander - bgexp.rar it shouldn't matter, especially if there is a pass and encrypted dir for the archive too.
What you did with the CS's is nice too.
Someone could get the Brutons in a week or just hit the payment once. lol
Never forget the people being generous enough to share their Vinyl.

Many thanks for your generous share of these Coloursound albums BWP. I'm slowly ploughing through them and look forward to listening to them over the coming days.
-
Appreciate your spending time on all of these recent uploads, kinda hard to follow through lol !!!
Happy Tuesday fellow

Thanks for all your efforts. Great Library.

Thanks BlackwatchPlaid.

I notice the share of CS 032 is in MP3 format. This is a FLAC version from the APM site converted from the original WAV files. I must say spectral analysis doesn't appear all that different from the MP3 version nor does the sound quality. But I share it here for completeness ==> pixeldrain.com/u/HtXrVd4k

Amazing stuff BlackwatchPlaid! Thank you so much!
