I'm half way through this endeavour, with the music from the first two series already posted up:

So far it is 147 tracks across five volumes
Even if you don't like 'The Sweeney', a 1975-1978 UK cop show if you didn't know the five individual posts all include snapshots of the LPs for a retro contextual vibe. I have to day I really enjoyed pulling them off the shelves and holding them again- some after many years of being unloved, neglected since their FLAC-friends distracted me with their shiny modern ways.
This show heavily used UK libraries; initially very KPM and De Wolfe heavy with smatterings of Chappell and Themes with a splosh of Selected Sound and what-not.
The latter episodes (not got to those yet) bought lots of Bruton in to the mix.... *dusts off Drama Montage*...
Anyway- get your trousers and yer headphones on!

Oh, you been a busy boy Retronic. Fabulous work, really, really appreciate it. Thank you very much. : )
-
Wow, I wasn't aware of this project you started to publish two days ago.
Great work Retro.
And thanks for sharing.
-
Thank you very much Retronic for your amazing & fantastic work !
better than any official label release !!
Super :)
-
Ive been eating, sleeping & breathing The Sweeney for days!! Hope you like them :-) You guys will have pretty much every track anyway but Ive always wanted to sort them out properly and have in one place.
-
BTW one track is a fake FLAC, converted from a 320 mp3. It just makes it look better and most people wont care about one track.

Wich one Retro? Maybe the LMT community can help with the flac version?

I think I did ask in the request section. Its Patchwork Orchestra 3, with Dramatic Minutes and Norfolk Fog.
-
Oh, I see.
It's Disques Magellan 526054 and also Sylvester 538.
Unfortunately I have both of them in mp3 only.
Let's hope someone can help to complete your project.

My patchworks are.. patchy. :)
This is making me feel like going out to buy some tights and a parka. What a superb collection so far Retronic - thank you (you slag).

The discussions since April 2020 have been lost but the remaining volumes are here:

Do all versions of the closing theme by Harry South have the beginning with part of the programme sound?
I suppose it can be easily edited out using Audacity but just wondered if the closing theme appears on any particular library album apart from Shut It?
-
There is a 7" single from 1975, which has opening and closing themes on each side.

Be interesting if the start of the closing theme has the first 3 seconds edited out?

Hi Retronic , just found this great site while searching for incidental music from the sweeney and these comps look amazing , any chance of getting a working link for them ?
-
They should be at retroteque.wordpress or similar if you google that + The Sweeney. If not all there give me a shout.
Meanwhile

All great stuff. Which makes me curious- considering that there were 53 episodes, thats a lot of music. Im wondering how much of this weekend set represents a typical Sweeney episode, and to what extent does it represent your personal taste, drawing selectively from a quite large body of music?
-
I doubt it captures 'The Sweeney'. I generally select stuff a bit randomly, but with variety in tempo/mood and always leave some for a Pt II. 'Acquital' & 'Holy Mackerel' always reminds me of the show. and there's definitely be some of my favourites in there.
01 Jingle 1 Benoit Kaufman
02 The Action Scene Alan Hawkshaw/Keith Mansfield
03 Movement One Herbie Flowers/Barry Morgan
04 Tension In The City Miki Antony/Tom Parker
05 Acquital David Lindup
06 Watchful Eye James Clark
07 Travelling To Meet Gordon Grant
08 Hogans Thing Simon Haseley
09 Steam Heat Barbara Moore
10 Undergroove Alan Hawkshaw
11 Name Of The Game- Brian Bennett/Alan Hawkshaw
12 Money Runner Alan Tew
13 Thug Brian Bennett
14 Productivity Les Hurdle/Frank Ricotti
15 Contact - Peter Reno
16 Heavy Lead Dave Richmond
17 Gear Shift Dave Richmond
18 The Journey Duncan Lamont
19 Drama Special Pt. 1 Ralph Marco
20 Smooth and Cool Nick Ingman
21 Underlying Expectancy John Cameron
22 Encounter Ted Sommer
23 Holy Mackerel! Brian Bennett
24 Little Big John Simon Haseley

Interesting- thanks. There's so much cool music there- I feel like I should try finding the show to see how it was used.

Thanks. And- no international copyright problems from the US
I realize now that "Life on Mars" needed library music.

Thanks for the mentioning of "Life on Mars", hadn't heard of that one before. :)

What an incredible great nice great piece of work, thanks for making this available!
I just was granted access here and after having found various nice stuff here already (Roubaix, Bruno Nicolai, ...),
today I thought, let's hit the search engine with 'Sweeney'...
OMG, so I found all this, pretty overwhelming. :)
I've collected several so far, also thought to have seen the rest on old mediafire-links,
but let me first listen to all the goodies I was able to find so far (CD 1-3, 6-8), those will keep me already busy for a while. 8]
Thanks again Retronic!
-
As far as I know they are all still available on the retroteque Wordpress blog- again search Sweeney. Pretty much every cue other than the original Harry South music and a handful of unknowns.
-

It's a nice time capsule of 70's rock/pop. I wonder how much "The Sweeney" inspired the "Life on Mars" depiction of 70's cops.

The marvels of google and an amazingly good memory on my part (remembering my username and password which I registered 6 years ago!) have lead me to this thread. Amazing. Thank you. A dream come true - in advance of the bluray of series 1 being reissued in June. But I was wondering if it would be possible to reupload the non-mega links as they seem to be broken. These are CDs 4, 5 and 9. Many thanks!
-
Sure and you picked the perfect time to ask- I can do Friday if no one beats me to it. Weekends are always the best time to ask me as I'm too busy in the week and miss things. I have Series 1 Blu but hopefully the other three will follow

Thank you - that would be wonderful!
This new release seems to have collected all of the previous extras from the UK (network) and Australian dvd releases, including music tracks. So I wonder if they'll be as before (ie truncated) or taking advantage of the bluray format and including the full tracks...?

I think these are the ones you're after man_in_a_suitcase (brilliant TV theme by Ron Grainer btw). All credit to Retronic for these excellent compilations. ==> h***s://pixeldrain.com/l/tSK3Utnp
