Glad you guys can go to the concert..
-
Really nice.
-
Who will be on bass? Herbie I hope.
-
Dave Richmond did it for the first few gigs (using his Burns Bison bass that no doubt graced many a KPM track back in the day), but the last one was a younger chap who I'd not heard of but was VERY good!
-
So.... the premier of the library film, followed by a talk, followed by KPM All Stars gig!!!

8] Cool
-
I wish I could go. I live in the States.
October 6th, eh?
October 7th is my birthday.
Maybe I'll wrap myself up as a present and send me to London.
-
You could flick through my Southern Music collection if that seals the deal?? Still I suppose it is quite far.
-
Concert, movie, flipping through Retronic Southern records... Where's the human wrapping paper?
-
Well, how was the big event? Anyone make it there over the weekend?
And Happy Birthday, Doug! :)
-
it was great- I am totally libraried out. You spend 20 years bareley being able to talk about it an the BANG, you;re surrounded by old and young who love it!I liked the film- some said it wasn't structured that well but whow do you do that? I thought it was good and got the DVD while I was there. This was followed by a panel with Keith Mansfield, Alan Parker, David Hollander & Andy Votel with some Q&A.The Be With re-issues were on sale along with both books, CD, etc There were LP covers on display along with the master tapes from Afro Rock & one of the Drama Suites (I took some pictures).
The gig itself was great- better than others my mates' said- Keith Mansfield, John Cameron, Alan Parker, Duncan Lamont, etc all conducted the brilliant (young) band. Brian Bennett, Dave Richmond and others were floating about so we chatted to some of them.
I'm rushing to work now but can post pics later. I did a load of short videos as well.

Excellent news, Retro! Looking forward to seeing some of these pics & videos (http://www.zappateers.com/bb/images/smiles/righton.gif)
-
Thanks for painting the picture in my mind. I look forward to any videos that you put together.
And thanks Stack for remembering
-
John Cameron did a rap :o
-
I had to miss this due to being ill - I'm sure I'll get over the disappointment eventually, maybe at some point in the next 50 years or so.
-
I looked out for you LT and Col, I thought you were there but don't know what you look like, although in my mind I'm thinking 'beardy'.

Shaved head and beardy but guess that was about 20% of attendees :P
We should have organised ourselves for a proper meet as it’s a rare occasion when such niche nerds are in the same place at the same time!
-
Indeed. I’ve never felt so at home. I had s chat with Tim H an Oliver L but didn’t know anyone else. I have a short video of the rap/ mash up :-)
I’ll up it to Instagram or something.
-
I didn’t take many pics/videos
Here’s a few...

Hey Retro, any way to post the direct links, like Col did above? Your instagram is private... plus I don't have an account.

This film look so great... Thanks

Pity. I don't have Instagram or Facebook account. Is there any other way to see those videos?
-
I'll try and put them all together and load onto YouTube.

Thank you Retronic. What fun!
-
Thank you Retro.
-
Great video Retronic! Thank you. I'm not sure what the highlight was for me: the organist (John Cameron?) looking like he has a neon blue mohawk about five minutes in, or the cute brunette playing the deep sax solo and the crowd going bonkers.
Did you get to meet anyone afterwards? I'm afraid I would have made a fool of myself asking John Cameron what it was like being in the Footlights with Eric Idle, how he approached arranging Donovan's music (check out "Wear Your Love Like Heaven"!), and if he was assigned themes by Bruton or if he got to choose what he wanted to do.
-
We did bump into John Cameron outside and chatted royalties from sampling compared to on-going royalties for old compositions; the latter is unsurprisingly more lucrative and his wife scours whosampled to make sure no one gets away without paying up. This was discussed in the panel discussion too. I wished I'd asked if he met Farrah Fawcett-Majors as he wrote the score to 'Sunburn' in 1979. My mate asked about a favourite KPM LP 'Mustang'- John said he had a Mustang at the time hence the name...
We chatted to Dave Richmond in between sets. There's a great bit in the film where he talk about a library fan asking 'Didn't you write 'Desolate Warehouse'', explaining that he plays these (drama) tracks out at nights. I slightly blushed inside as although it wasn't me, it so could have been!
Tim H spoke to more cos he got his KPM catalogue signed.
-
Fantastic! Just getting back online. Thanks for the video and details, Retro!
-
Yeah I was there
I’ll be stocking a short review on louderthanwar
Will stick it up on here once published
-
It sounds like it was a great show, as usual. Does anyone know if the Q&A at Spiritland is available to listen to anywhere?
-
Very cool, thanks a lot Retronic. :)
-
Wow!
This concert isn't news to me, but I've only just now located this thread. Day late and a dollar short, that's my middle name! 8]
Now i wished I'd been in the UK last month.
Does anybody remember the title of the film presentation? I'd like to hunt for a DVD copy to purchase...
Thanks to anybody who chimes in.
-
Nevermind! I found it on Juno :)
Otoh, theres probably more info and several vendors who have this DVD, once its finally released.
It's titled
The Library Music Film
https://www.juno.co.uk/products/legere-recordings-germany-the-library-music-film/709673-01/
Ive signed up for an email notification once the DVD becomes available.
Of course, it's not quite like a night with the KPM All-Stars, but when you're living in life's Cheap Seats, you gotta be resourceful ;D
-
I went. The acoustics were a bit iffy (standing on the staircase), but the playing was sound. It was nice to see Duncan Lamont. He uses a walking stick and must be quite old now.
I had it in the back of my mind that we probably won't see some of these old-timers on stage again.
