Title: Frank Gari 1989 - 1993 Sky/BSkyB music?
Post by: Dinsdale on October 28, 2026, 11:44:57 PM
Hi all

I have been planning to post on a library forum for a while to help me track down a search for 3 themes used on Sky's UK television networks - 2 of which I'm fairly confident are from the Frank Gari collection. I have been looking for these themes for 30 years, and have done my best to trawl through the Internet with limited success.

I'm hoping someone can give me information on these themes, or point me in the direction of how I can acquire them.

Sky Movies (1989 - 1993)
This theme was used on Sky Movies/Sky Movies Plus. I have found with ease the 1993 - 1995 themes that Frank Gari did for Sky that superseded this theme, but the 1989 - 1993 collection is more difficult to track down. I do have some other channel themes from this period, but not full sets with the different lengths/bumpers etc.. but I have absolutely nothing when it comes to this "Sky Movies" theme.

Sky Sports (1991 - 1993)
This theme was used on Sky Sports for their idents - I am not sure if a longer version exists or it was part of a wider set. This one seems impossible to find. I know there were two versions of the ident theme.

WWF UK Rampage (1991 - 1992)
This theme is an odd one. I'm not sure if this is a Frank Gari theme, or a theme the WWF composed themselves. There's an argument it is not a WWF theme, as the (now) WWE dub this music on new releases of this show, indicating it isn't theirs. Plus, a sped up version of this music was used by Sky One for a TJ Hooker spot. Conversely, I did speak to someone who used to work for Sky, and he said that Sky back then was a bit "wild west" and he wouldn't be surprised if they simply reused a WWF theme for other purposes. Still, we have no solid answers

Example here (two versions): https://youtu.be/iYgbu1uJ7Sc

Really got my fingers crossed!
Thanks

Sky used cuts from the Gari packages Good News and Great News in the early years. Both packages have a few hundred cuts and variations and I'm fairly confident that the cuts you mentioned are from these packages.

Take a listen to www.newsmusicnow.com/cuts

Thanks, I can't find any of those in the samples listed on that site. Do you know of any tool where you can give it a soundprint and it can pinpoint any potential matches?

It's probable that Warner Chappell haven't given metadata to Good/Great News as the packages haven't been active for some time.

I had a quick look earlier and I'll have a listen through the packages in the next few days. Unfortunately, I won't be able to share the full packages as that is an agreement I have with the person who sourced them.

I'd really appreciate that - as for the agreement you have, it's funny you say that. You're the second person to say that to me. I don't know what it is about this particular theme set that's protected. The 1993 pack is widely available and it seems everyone has it.

If you could at least confirm the library/track names - it may at least confirm what it is exactly I'm looking for, which is more information that I've been able to gather for the past 30 years - I'd be super grateful.

I have also reached out to Warner Chappell as they seem to have downloadable versions of their library, but I think you need to tell them exactly what you want. I would buy a licence if necessary.

From what I can make out , the Sky Movies 1990 cuts are special versions recorded for Sky however, I'll do some digging and see what I can find out.
I've gone through Good/Great News that I have and there's nothing for movies. I'll check the sports/WWF cues later and let you know. We'll get there in the end.
