This rip was kindly shared with us by user Heavenfield Records - what a treat, thanks!

I believe this one, like the other Italian-composed entries on Ember, is licensed from Cetra Commenti Musicali. Unlike the others, however, this one seems to be compiling and retitling cues from different releases, making identifying the origin of the individual components increasingly difficult without access to the original Italian LPs.

There's some great 60's sounds on this.
In parts structured something like a theme set, or possibly consisting of fragments of one or more film/TV scores, you'll find some of the cues are linked together; for instance, a similar melodic motif appears repeated throughout the first 5 cues on the A-side, whereas track A7 "Suite cantabile" seems to be taking that very motif and turning it on its head, B1 through B3 are all structured around rhythmic piano ostinati with tango-influenced harmonies, B4 "Sad Memories" and B9 "Lonely Shepherd" are variations on the same theme, and so on and so on. It's an intriguing little patchwork, a bit like a puzzle!

I couldn't help but crack a smile when the opening track, after a quick brass burst, settles into the familiar "Mah-na-mah-na" drum pattern - it quickly takes a more mysterious/exotic turn, however. It's quite a varied collection, the moods run the gamut from exotic and mambo-influenced, laid-back and jazzy, mysterious and tense, quirky, pastoral, upbeat and spy-ish, dreamy and floating.

Indeed, the vibraphone, piano, electric guitar and strings are used to great effect to create a dreamy mood on "Bulrush" (B7), which is perhaps my favourite of the bunch.

There's some more out-there stuff here, too - "Motorway" (A4) prominently centers the bass clarinet, and "Lady Killer" (B5) and the ending cue "Drusilla" (B11) both feature a bowed saw(!) in the arrangement - that's a first! As always, it's also a treat to hear the rich sound of a full wind band, as on "Sad Memories" (B4).

Enjoy!
