It’s interesting to have both versions because the newly released versions on the library website often contain slightly different tracks to the original vinyl albums. Same on De Wolfe and on the Studio One albums - sometimes the new versions of tracks are better, sometimes not and of course loads of albums have exactly the same material on vinyl and digital download. What is great though, is that most libraries are getting their material out there. De Wolfe currently has a link to its music being used in the latest ‘Rivals’ series on Disney which includes one Florida Playboy by Johnny Hawksworth - which many of you will know as a tune the BBC used to play in intervals between schools broadcasts. That was how I got into library music. As a child the teacher would put on the television so we could watch Look and Read and the announcer would say the programme starts in five minutes and we were treated to a library track before an animated countdown sequence two minutes before the show started. The BBC had a lot of intervals between programmes and nearly all were filled with library tracks. Those were the days. That’s why this site is so special keeping this history alive.
