Here's one I ordered about two months back that's arrived recently, an entry in the Match Music lineup that's currently not available on the UPM site.

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing something from Match.. The fact that it's not on the UPM site. Is something I didn't even know.

I appreciate you offering this CD you have in your possession, but why are the mp3 files you have uploaded transcoded?

Could you maybe rerip this in flac?

Thank you.

Huh, that's weird. It's in mp3. But that's okay for me, as long as it is not below 128kbps. But, i'm really down with FLAC. :D

WTF does this even mean?

I said they are TRANSCODED.

It would be better to moderate manners and language a bit, don't you think BWP?

My apologies for the acronym lol but the response was beyond stupid. I figured spectrals would make it obvious what I was trying to say and I didn't know of a better way to stress that fact at the moment. Being told I downloaded it wrong seemed a bit disrespectful. No worries, I just want to know why the album was uploaded with transcoded mp3 files when the OP said he ripped it personally.

My methods may not be the flashiest (I rip my CDs via Windows Media Player, sue me), but at least I'm trying to provide what I have to the world.

This isn't the first time attention has been called to my file export bitrates. After the replies to my EA-004 share, I modified my rip settings to be at least 320 to provide clean audio while keeping my own limited storage capacity in mind (I don't just collect music, I have several files, mostly videos, laying around). Alas, I still get my balls busted because it's not the holy FLAC file type.

It's just my opinion that maybe some gratitude goes a long way, no? If someone out of their own good will shared rarities and things I've been after, I'd be very grateful regardless of the file type. Even if they were low quality audition recordings, I would still be glad to have said material in any capacity. Displaying such an elitist, "FLAC or nothing" attitude is a surefire way to dissuade those who may not have the best equipment, or the best methods, but do have good stuff to share (that they spent who knows how much money on, mind you) from wanting to share anything else, and could scare off others who may have been willing to share because they see something like this, and think it's not worth it if all they're going to get is nitpicked and criticized to oblivion because god forbid they didn't use the exact type of audio file extension. Not everyone out there is or is going to be audiophiles with deep knowledge on such matters.

This forum is the last place I'd wanted to be confrontational on, but seeing these replies I felt like putting in my two cents on the matter.

I'd also like to apologize.
I kinda just got here. I'm not new to music libraries, but I'm not good with audio stuff.
I understand formats, such as WAV and mp3, and the difference. I produce music, I understand audio panning and mastering. But I didn't understand what you were talking about, so I shouldn't have brought it up in the first place.

You seriously misunderstand what I am saying to you. I am not ungrateful. Thank you for uploading.

BUT the files are transcoded. This means your program wrote 128kbps data to a 320kbps file. I asked you to rip to FLAC because it removes this variable from happening again.

Don't be angry, instead try to understand where I am coming from, because it is not a place of complaints. I am not complaining to you. I am providing a public service by saying the data contained in the 320kbps files is only 128kbps quality.

Please, could you rerip this album in FLAC so that this error can be fixed, sir (or ma'am)?

I use Exact Audio Copy to rip CDs, which will rip to wav very quickly and efficiently. I don't know if it will rip to flac, I haven't checked... but I use software called freac to convert between wav and flac.

You can also rip CDs with fre:ac direct to your preferred output format. Though having just tried it on my Mac it seems to crash. Apparently it's a known bug which they're fixing. My go to app for ripping is XLD (X Lossless Decoder). It also runs on Windows.

If I owned CDs in the future, what could I use to rip them?

Exact Audio Copy is the standard/best choice for ripping CDs on Windows. If you use apple products, XLD (X Lossless Decoder) is the standard product to use.

Q: Do you plan to release a Linux or MAC version of EAC?
A: Sorry, no Linux nor MAC version is planned at all. But it is reported that EAC runs in an emulation layer (WINE for Linux and Virtual PC Win 98 for MAC), so if you own this software have a try.

Yes I read that too. But where’s the sense in having to get an additional app (WINE) to run a simple function like a CD ripper when I already have a perfectly acceptable and equally capable alternative (XLD)? In any case I did give WINE a try some years ago and it messed up my Mac and kept crashing. Or maybe it was just faithfully emulating a Windows PC!

XLD is every last bit as good of a ripper as EAC is. That's why all the super elite secret torrent site accept XLD  ;D
