Instruments used in music libraries
« on: November 16, 2023, 05:41:18 AM »
Hello.

Lately, I've been wondering, if anyone knows exactly, what instruments and synthesizers were used in music libraries like Match music librery, bruton, chappell among other music libraries of the 80s and 90s.

My guess: the full spectrum of synths available in any given period.

I happen to own a few synthesizers that were used in some Music 2 Hues tracks:
  • Ensoniq TS-12
  • Roland JV-1080
  • E-mu Proteus/1
  • E-mu Proteus/2

Wow, would be a huge range of synths including...

Prophet 5
Mini Moog
Fairlight CMI
Roland Vocoder Plus
Oberheim
Yamaha C500
ARP Sequencer
Roland Rhythm Machine
Electric Harpsichord
Yamaha DX7
DMX (drum machine)

Problem is, most library labels give an indication as to what the style / genre of track is but rarely list specific instruments.

This question can't really be answered if you can't draw a significant line (certain tracks, era, album).

TonyC listed a lot of synthies I have spotted in my tracks, but in certain, especially from COLOURSOUND distributed polish tracks are certainly USSR-made synthesizer.

I also think I heard a famous KORG synthesizer and also very often the famous LinnDrum machines.
