US 78 label under The Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company, established c. 1928.
Starting in the silent film era, this is apparently one of the oldest libraries in the US.
The catalogue consists of both 10" and 12" shellacs, though with no indication through the cat.# for their size.
Due to the sheer size of this catalogue, I have elected not to include this information in this listing.
The material is apparently a mix of specially recorded music for the library, and reused instrumental works found on Brunswick's regular commercial records.
As can perhaps be expected with a pioneering label such as this, there are a few odd aspects here you don't often see with library records:
1. Oddly enough, these records are two-sided, but contain the exact same music on both sides. This would be useful if you manage to wear out one side through extended usage, I guess.
2. For the most part, no composers or performers are specified on the releases themselves - this information apparently being limited to the accompanying catalogue. Funnily enough, this means most of the center label is just left kind of... blank.
3. Yes, you saw right; the catalogue is in fact sorted in alphabetical order by title.
